Yes. NetherRealm identifies Billy Loomis as Mortal Kombat 1’s canonical Ghostface for the character’s unmasked moments. That answers who the game shows beneath the mask; it does not mean Billy is the only Ghostface in the Scream franchise, where different killers have used the identity.
Who is under Ghostface’s mask in Mortal Kombat 1?
NetherRealm’s interview with PlayStation Blog names Billy Loomis, one of the killers in the original Scream, as the game’s “canon” Ghostface for unmasked moments. The wording is specific: Billy is the game’s chosen identity when Ghostface is unmasked. It does not redefine every masked killer in the film series as Billy.

Why does Mortal Kombat 1 use more than one Ghostface?
The character draws on the original film’s multiple-killer premise. In an Xbox Wire interview, NetherRealm describes teamwork as central to its adaptation. That idea appears in the moveset: “Always Outnumbered” calls another Ghostface to help, while “Backstage Pass” briefly takes the fighter off-screen before they reappear on either side.
The design also gives Ghostface a distinct fighting style. Principal Designer Paulo Garcia described the character as especially throw-focused, with a brawler or grappler feel. The game’s helper moves and combat style turn the franchise’s multiple-killer setup into gameplay rather than making the mask represent only one person at all times.

Does the game confirm every Ghostface is Billy Loomis?
No. NetherRealm’s statement establishes Billy as the canonical identity for MK1’s unmasked moments. Ghostface is an assumed identity used by different killers in the Scream franchise, and the game’s team-based mechanics preserve that broader premise. The useful distinction is between the game’s selected unmasked face and the franchise’s recurring masked persona.
