The studio said it would use the funding to expand its team and develop its debut game, which was later revealed as the dark-fantasy action RPG Darkhaven. The seed round and the game’s later Kickstarter campaign were separate funding events.
Who invested in Moon Beast Productions?
GameDeveloper and GamesBeat reported that 1AM Gaming led the $4.5 million seed round. Their coverage also named 1UP Ventures, The Mini Fund, Overwolf, Versus Ventures, and angel investors Gaingels, Cohh Carnage, and Mark Pincus as participants. Funding coverage identified Moon Beast’s founders as Phil Shenk, Peter Hu, and Erich Schaefer, veterans of Diablo and Diablo II. The studio said the capital would help it grow its team and finance its first game. The coverage does not establish the studio’s current headcount, the round’s runway, or any subsequent financing. What game is Moon Beast making?
The debut project was later revealed as Darkhaven, a dark-fantasy isometric action RPG. Its Steam listing describes a procedurally generated open world that players can fully destroy. Those are the game’s stated design features, not an independent assessment of how they play. (Darkhaven on Steam)

How much did Darkhaven raise on Kickstarter?
Darkhaven’s Kickstarter campaign ran from February 16 to March 21, 2026. It finished with $532,412 pledged by 5,150 backers, surpassing its $500,000 goal. Those totals belong to the crowdfunding campaign, not Moon Beast’s 2024 seed round. (Kickstarter campaign)

Is Darkhaven released yet?
As of October 8, 2026, Steam labels Darkhaven “Coming soon”; the store page says the game is not yet available and has no user reviews. That status may change, so consult the Steam listing for the current release status.
The studio’s Kickstarter FAQ gives no firm release date. Its stated plan is to launch first in Early Access on Windows via Steam when the game offers a fulfilling experience.
