Minecraft’s Copper Age is already available, not an upcoming update. Mojang released Java Edition 1.21.9 and Bedrock Edition 1.21.111 on September 30, 2025; the update adds copper tools, weapons and armor, plus a Copper Golem that moves items from Copper Chests into nearby storage. The official overview confirms the drop for both editions and recommends updating Minecraft to the latest version.
What the Copper Age adds
The Copper Age is Minecraft Game Drop 3 of 2025. Its central change is to give copper a role beyond building and decoration: it becomes an equipment tier between stone and iron, and it powers a small item-sorting system built around Copper Chests and Copper Golems. These are in-game features, not real-world copper products.
Mojang’s Copper Age overview covers both Java and Bedrock. The detailed mechanics below are from the Java Edition 1.21.9 notes unless Bedrock is specifically identified.
How copper gear compares with stone and iron
The update adds a copper axe, hoe, pickaxe, shovel and sword, along with a helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots. Copper tools and weapons deal stone-level damage. In Java, the release notes say copper tools are faster and more durable than stone tools. The official overview places copper between stone and iron, but the notes do not provide a full numerical ranking for every tool statistic.

The armor comparison differs between the edition notes, so it is best to use the wording for the edition you play rather than assume a single cross-edition ranking. Copper equipment is crafted and repaired with copper ingots, smelts into a copper nugget, and does not oxidize.
How to use a Copper Golem for storage
Place a Jack o’Lantern or carved pumpkin on a copper block to spawn a Copper Golem. Give it items from a Copper Chest, and it can carry them to nearby regular chests. It places an item in an empty chest or one that already contains the same item type; it is not an automatic sorter for every item in a base.

Java sorting limits
- A golem carries up to 16 items in a stack.
- It checks at most 10 chests or Copper Chests in sequence.
- It searches within 32 blocks horizontally and 8 blocks vertically.
- If it finds no chest that can take the item, it idles for seven seconds before trying again.
These are Java Edition mechanics listed in the 1.21.9 release notes. Plan storage within the search area and leave enough compatible chests for the items you want moved.
Oxidation, waxing and Copper Golem Statues
Copper Chests oxidize over time and can be waxed. An unwaxed Copper Golem that fully oxidizes becomes a Copper Golem Statue. You can change the statue’s pose; each pose emits a redstone comparator signal, giving the statue a decorative use that can also interact with redstone builds.

How to get the update
The Copper Age is released on Java and Bedrock. Update Minecraft to the latest version for your platform; the official overview directs players to the latest release rather than treating the drop as a separate purchase or add-on.
