If Warzone is stuck on “Checking for Update” or another loading screen, first check Activision’s server status and your platform’s service status. Then relaunch the game, check for a pending update, and test your connection. The message alone does not identify the cause, and there is no verified universal fix; use the steps below in order, saving reinstalling or database options for persistent update failures.
1. Check whether Warzone or your platform is having a service issue
Start with Activision’s Call of Duty: Warzone Online Services page. Check the indicator for your platform and look for an alert. Activision notes that connectivity problems may continue until an affected service is restored. If you are signed in but still cannot connect, check the relevant platform status as well; Activision points players to PlayStation Network and Xbox Live status.
Activision’s known-issues page showed an update date of September 25, 2026, when checked on October 8, 2026. It did not display this exact loading-loop wording, but a changing issue list cannot rule out a newer or unlisted incident.
2. Relaunch Warzone and check for a pending update
Close the game fully, start it again, and use your platform’s launcher or game library to check whether an update is waiting to download or install. Let any update finish before relaunching. If the update appears stalled or fails, note the exact message; that helps distinguish an update failure from a connection problem.

PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4
Highlight the game on the home screen, open its options, and select Check for Update. PlayStation says games and apps update to the newest available version when started and also provides this manual check. See PlayStation’s game update instructions.
PC and Battle.net
Use the update or repair options provided by the launcher you use, but do not assume a particular repair sequence applies to this symptom. Blizzard Support search results include an article titled “Unable to Install or Patch Call of Duty: Warzone,” but its instructions could not be verified from the page content available here. Activision’s repair guidance for an Xbox-on-PC 0x error is specific to that error, not evidence of a fix for the “Checking for Update” loop.

3. Test the connection before changing network settings
A network test can show whether the console is failing to connect. Activision provides these paths:
- PS5 or PS4: Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection.
- Xbox: Press the Xbox button, then go to Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings > Test network connection.
If the test fails, follow the platform’s network troubleshooting guidance. If it succeeds, that does not prove the game update or Activision service is healthy; continue with the relevant checks rather than treating the test as a Warzone diagnosis.

If you are playing over Wi-Fi
If practical, connect by Ethernet and test again. Activision’s connection article, dated November 14, 2022, says it “strongly recommend[s] using a wired Ethernet connection during online gameplay,” because Wi-Fi reliability and bandwidth can vary. A wired test can help identify an unstable wireless connection, but it will not resolve a server outage or missing game files. A Cat6 Ethernet cable is one option if you need a cable; it is not required, and buying one is not a guaranteed fix.
Restart the router and reduce competing traffic
Restarting the router is a basic connection step recommended by Activision. Pause or reduce bandwidth-heavy streaming and downloads on the network, then test the game after each change. Activision’s connection guidance for Call of Duty: Warzone covers service checks and network troubleshooting; its interface details and linked service pages can change over time.

4. Use PlayStation’s failed-update steps if the problem persists
If Warzone has a failed or repeatedly stalled update on PlayStation, use PlayStation’s escalation guidance in this order. These are general update troubleshooting actions, not guaranteed fixes for this particular loading loop.
- Restart the console and try the update again.
- Install the latest console system software.
- If the update still fails, consider deleting and reinstalling the game.
- For a persistent problem, use the console’s Safe Mode database/cache option: PS5 offers Clear Cache and Rebuild Database; PS4 offers Rebuild Database.
Consult PlayStation’s update troubleshooting page for the current instructions. Reinstalling and database operations are more disruptive than checking status, relaunching, or testing the network, so reserve them for persistent update failures.

5. Report a persistent issue with reproducible details
If the status pages look normal and the platform-supported steps do not help, check Activision’s known-issues list before reporting the problem. Activision asks bug reports to describe what happened, where and when it happened, and how to reproduce it. Include the following details if available:
