Yes. Mojang’s October 3, 2025 PlayStation-only update note says Minecraft 1.21.112 fixed an issue associated with 1.21.111 that could make worlds opened from earlier versions load with incorrect or missing chunks and save data. The note does not say whether every world already affected could be recovered. This documented world-data problem is distinct from a PS5 message saying the console is out of storage.
What Mojang acknowledged
In its Minecraft 1.21.112 PlayStation-only release note, posted October 3, 2025, Mojang said it fixed an issue where worlds opened from previous versions on PlayStation could sometimes load with incorrect or missing chunk generation and save data. The note associates the problem with 1.21.111 and links to the issue reference MCPE-228500.
In practical terms, the documented symptom was not simply that a console drive had run out of space. It was that a Minecraft world could load with parts of its generated world or saved data missing or incorrect. Mojang described the behavior as something that could happen sometimes, not as an outcome affecting every player or world.
Which “storage issue” do you have?
| What you see | What it points to | Official guidance |
|---|---|---|
| A Minecraft world opened from an earlier version loads with missing or incorrect chunks or save data. | The world-data issue described in Mojang’s PlayStation 1.21.112 note, associated with 1.21.111. The note does not provide a storage threshold or say how many worlds were affected. | Mojang says 1.21.112 fixed the issue. The note does not establish whether already affected worlds can all be recovered. |
| PS5 displays error CE-107872-5 while installing or copying data. | Insufficient free space on the console, according to PlayStation’s support page for CE-107872-5. This is a separate diagnosis from MCPE-228500. | PlayStation recommends checking console storage and managing space; its page says an installation may require roughly twice the requested free space. |
The word “storage” can describe either situation, but the symptoms matter. A low-space error during an install is not evidence that a Minecraft world has the bug Mojang described. Likewise, missing chunks in a world do not by themselves establish that the PS5 drive is full.

What to do if a Minecraft world is affected
- Protect the current save before experimenting. If you have a backup option available, make a copy before attempting recovery or further changes. A USB backup is a precaution, not a repair for missing chunks or damaged save data. Check your console’s current menus and USB formatting requirements before using a drive.
- Check the game version. Mojang’s note says the issue was fixed in PlayStation version 1.21.112. If the console is running an older version, update Minecraft through the console’s normal update process before testing the world again.
- Open the world cautiously. Compare it with a backup if one exists. The release note confirms the fix for the issue but does not explain a recovery process for a world that already loaded incorrectly, so do not assume updating will restore missing data.
- Use the official issue reference for context. The 1.21.112 note links to MCPE-228500. Treat comments on an issue tracker as user contributions unless Mojang identifies them as official findings.
What to do for PS5 error CE-107872-5
If the console explicitly shows CE-107872-5, follow PlayStation’s storage troubleshooting rather than treating it as the Minecraft world-data bug. PlayStation directs users to check free space under Settings > Storage. Its support page also notes that installing data may need roughly twice the requested free space, and suggests considering extended storage or changing the save destination if the problem continues. These are PlayStation’s recommendations for that error code, not a remedy for missing Minecraft chunks.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What remains unclear
Mojang’s note does not give a minimum world size, a console-storage threshold, an estimate of affected players, or step-by-step instructions to repair worlds already affected. It also does not establish that every previously affected save was recoverable. The documentation supports a specific PlayStation world-loading and save-data defect, but it does not confirm that every complaint described as a “Minecraft storage issue” refers to MCPE-228500.
