Then check Ubisoft’s service status and test the network before changing PC settings. These are diagnostic steps, not guaranteed fixes; test the game after each one.
First confirm which game you own. The Steam listing for MONOPOLY PLUS is for Ubisoft’s 2017 release; Ubisoft also lists a newer PC game called MONOPOLY, with different system requirements. Don’t apply one game’s requirements to the other.
Identify what “lag” means in your game
Connection trouble and poor local performance can feel similar, but they call for different checks. Notice whether moves arrive late, players disconnect, or you cannot join a lobby; those point toward connectivity. If the board or animations stutter even outside multiplayer, investigate local performance as well.
- Ask whether other players in the lobby see the same delay. A problem affecting everyone may not be limited to your PC.
- Check whether the game is smooth outside the online session.
- Note when the issue starts and whether it comes and goes with changes in your connection.
These observations help narrow the cause; they are not game-specific diagnostic thresholds.

Try these eight troubleshooting steps
1. Check Ubisoft service status
Before changing your setup, check Ubisoft service status for a current outage or maintenance affecting the game or its services. Status can change, so check when the problem is happening. Local network changes cannot resolve a service outage.
2. Compare Wi-Fi with wired Ethernet
If your PC uses Wi-Fi and you can connect it to the router by Ethernet, test a session that way. Ubisoft’s guidance is: “If possible, please test the issue on a wired connection for the most reliable and steady results.” A wired test can show whether Wi-Fi is contributing to an unstable connection; it is not a universal fix.

3. Power-cycle your router
Restart the router to rule out a temporary network-hardware problem. This will briefly disconnect devices using it and could interrupt a support conversation, so save work and let any active call or download finish first. Then reconnect and test the game.
4. Install available Windows updates
Check Windows Update for available updates and install them, including any relevant network-driver updates offered for your PC. Ubisoft notes that Windows updates may provide network drivers needed for connectivity. An update is worth checking, but it does not guarantee that multiplayer lag will stop.

5. Check for software conflicts with a clean boot
A Windows clean boot starts Windows with essential drivers and startup programs, which can help determine whether background software is interfering. Follow Microsoft’s current instructions for performing a clean boot in Windows. Treat this as a diagnostic test, not a permanent gaming setup: after testing, restore normal startup using Microsoft’s instructions.
6. Run a ping test while troubleshooting
A ping test measures how long it takes for packets to travel over a connection. Ubisoft recommends using one as part of network troubleshooting. If you run it while the lag occurs, record the result and whether it changes during the session; don’t use an invented “good” ping cutoff for MONOPOLY PLUS, because no game-specific target is established in the cited guidance.

7. Check whether your network restricts connections
School, workplace, and other managed networks may restrict online connections. If you play on one, ask its network administrator whether game traffic is limited. If the issue persists on your home connection, contact your ISP for help with connection stability. Avoid adding port-forwarding rules based on generic advice: the current guidance cited here does not establish MONOPOLY PLUS-specific port values.
8. Send Ubisoft support useful diagnostics
If the checks above do not resolve the issue, contact Ubisoft Support and include the diagnostic reports Ubisoft requests: DxDiag and MSInfo. Also describe the exact symptom, when it occurs, the game version, and whether other players experience it. Those details help distinguish a connection issue from a problem limited to one PC or one game version.

Check the requirements for the exact game you own
MONOPOLY PLUS and the newer MONOPOLY are separate PC listings. Check the store page for your title rather than assuming their requirements match.

The 256 kbps upstream figure in the older readme is a stated multiplayer bandwidth requirement, not a promise that meeting it will prevent lag. Requirements also cannot tell you on their own whether a particular online delay comes from the PC, the connection, or service conditions.
What to record if the lag continues
Keep a short note of the conditions around an affected session: whether the whole lobby is affected, whether Ethernet changes the symptom, what your ping test shows during the issue, whether the game stutters offline, and whether Ubisoft reports a service problem. Include the exact game title and its version when contacting support. This gives support a clearer starting point than “the game lags.”
