To unlock the hidden trade-based armor in Monster Hunter Wilds, reach High Rank, check settlement traders for special materials, and forge the armor at the smithy. Some materials can also appear through random Material Retrieval. The Artian set follows a different route: complete the optional quest “What we Protect.”
How the hidden armor unlocks work
- Reach High Rank. The special materials for these trade-based unlocks do not appear in Low Rank, even though Item Trade becomes available earlier. The PC Gamer guide suggests returning after defeating Yian Kut-Ku. PC Gamer’s guide (February 27, 2025) is the source for the set routes below; it is not an exhaustive inventory of armor added later.
- Check traders and Nata’s services. Trader stock changes, so revisit settlements periodically. Nata serves as a central hub for village trading once available. Some materials may also be available through Material Retrieval after village quests; retrieval is random, and the exact route is not established for every material.
- Forge the armor. Once you have the relevant special material, take it to the smithy to unlock the corresponding armor pieces.
Pieces from the village sets contribute to Imparted Wisdom (3), identified in the guide as Forager’s Luck. The skill requires three pieces and increases the chance of finding rare gathering points.

Hidden sets and their unlock materials
The table lists the 12 named entries in the guide, rather than treating its headline’s “11” as a confirmed total: its headline and list do not agree. Piece counts are included where the guide specifies them.

Event and Gamma armor use separate unlock routes
Event and Gamma armor are separate from the High Rank trade-material sets above. PlayStation Blog announced Arch-tempered Arkveld as a permanent Event Quest beginning February 18, 2026, alongside additional Arch-tempered event content. The post said, “Nearly all event quests, with some exceptions, will become permanently available beyond February 18.” PlayStation Blog’s February 9, 2026 update

- Evolved Hunting Action – The series’ acclaimed action-packed gameplay is back and more exciting than ever! Hunters can look forward to tracking down monsters with an array of new moves, special abilities, equipment, and more. The action also now flows seamlessly from cutscenes to gameplay, resulting in a new level of immersion.
