Which features were free, and which require the expansion?
Animalities were not exclusive to Khaos Reigns. Warner Bros. Games announced a free update for every Mortal Kombat 1 owner, which at launch included Animalities, the return of Towers of Time, and four arenas: Chaoseum, Night Market, The Maze, and Havik’s Citadel. The story expansion and Kombat Pack 2 are the paid additions.
Do I need Mortal Kombat 1 to play Khaos Reigns?
Yes. Khaos Reigns is an expansion and requires the Mortal Kombat 1 base game. The expansion is digital-only. Kombat Pack 2 is not sold as a standalone bundle, although individual fighters can be purchased separately. The expansion and pack are included in Khaos Reigns or in the later Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition.
