It is built around a bleak story and oppressive atmosphere, not action-heavy combat. Its violence is explicit: the developer warns of extreme violence, gore and mutilation. If that material is within your limits and you want a compact, story-focused horror experience, its premise and strong Steam player response make it worth considering.
What is Mouthwashing about?
Developed by Wrong Organ and published by CRITICAL REFLEX, Mouthwashing launched on September 26, 2024. The game follows the five crew members of the Tulpar, a space freighter left stranded after a disaster. With food dwindling and isolation setting in, the crew’s situation becomes increasingly fraught.
That setup is the starting point, not the whole story. The official description frames the game as immersive storytelling that rewards attention to your surroundings. Going in with as little plot detail as possible preserves the impact of its turns.
What kind of horror and gameplay should you expect?
Steam describes the scares as psychological. The first-person perspective and attention to the environment support a story-led experience: the central draw is the crew’s predicament and the unease around it, rather than a promise of combat-focused action. The store description does not establish how much time is spent on puzzles or other specific mechanics, so it is best not to expect a particular balance of those elements.

The game is single-player. Its atmosphere and narrative premise are likely to matter more to prospective players than a checklist of combat features. Whether that works for you depends on how much you enjoy unsettling, story-focused horror and how comfortable you are with its subject matter.
Is Mouthwashing too disturbing for you?
The developer’s Steam content disclosure explicitly names “Extreme violence, gore, mutilation and worse on PSX-style characters.” This is a meaningful warning, not a suggestion that the game is broadly suitable for all ages. If graphic violence or bodily harm is a hard boundary, this is likely one to skip. The store disclosure does not provide a detailed scene-by-scene content guide.
