“Pokémon Synapse” is a codename attributed by October 2024 leak-period reports to a possible multiplayer Pokémon project—not an officially announced game. Game Freak confirmed that its servers were accessed without authorization and employee personal information was leaked, but its notice did not confirm Synapse or describe a game.
What is Pokémon Synapse?
Synapse is a codename associated with an alleged multiplayer Pokémon project in reports following Game Freak’s 2024 data breach. The project’s identity and features have not been officially established. It is therefore more accurate to call it a reported project than a confirmed new Pokémon game.
Nintendo Everything’s October 13, 2024 report said leak coverage described Synapse as an unreleased multiplayer battle title; some accounts characterized it as PvP or an MMO, while the project details remained unclear. ComicBook.com’s October 12, 2024 report likewise described it as reportedly an MMO being developed with Game Freak and ILCA, while noting the lack of detail and game media. These are attributed leak claims, not official product information.
What did Game Freak confirm about the breach?
In a notice reproduced by Press Start, Game Freak said unauthorized access to its servers occurred in August 2024 and that employee personal information was leaked. The notice specified 2,606 records containing employee names and company email addresses. That figure describes the personal-data records listed in the notice; it does not establish how much development data, if any, was involved.

The notice said: “We sincerely apologize for the great inconvenience and concern caused to all concerned parties.” This was Game Freak’s corporate statement about the incident, not a comment about Synapse.
Was Synapse described as Splatoon-like?
Nintendo Everything’s updated report noted that Synapse had also been described as “Splatoon-like,” but said the meaning of the comparison was unclear. It should not be treated as confirmation of a shooter, a particular mode, or any specific gameplay feature. The available leak-period accounts differ in how they characterize the project, and none establishes what it would actually play like.
