How Strands hints work
Strands is a word-search puzzle: find theme-related words in a letter grid by tracing letters that touch vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. Each puzzle also has a spangram, which connects opposite sides of the grid and reveals the theme. A 2026 paper on Strands describes the hint mechanic: finding three valid words that are not in the answer set triggers a hint highlighting the letters of a hidden answer; a further hint can reveal their order.
