It was an early test clip, not an EA feature presentation. EA officially confirmed Rush as a returning mode a month later, but being in the game does not guarantee a place in official matchmaking: GameSpot reported in August 2026 that Rush had been removed from official playlists and custom searches, while remaining available in Portal custom games at that time.
What the leaked Battlefield 6 footage showed
GameSpot’s Eddie Makuch reported on June 30, 2025, that a clip from an ongoing Battlefield Labs alpha test showed a player in a tank during Rush. According to the report, testers had agreed not to share footage online, and the clip had first appeared on Reddit before moderators removed it. The clip offered an early glimpse, not confirmation of the final mode’s rules or launch configuration. Rush was already a familiar Battlefield mode, so the footage was less a surprise announcement than a look at the mode being tested in Battlefield 6.
When EA confirmed Rush—and what the mode is
On July 31, 2025, Electronic Arts announced Battlefield 6 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with an October 10, 2025 launch date. EA named Rush alongside Conquest and Breakthrough as a returning mode. The announcement also described Battlefield Portal as a toolset for creating Community Experiences. In its Open Beta debrief, EA placed Rush’s roots in the Bad Company era, where the mode was originally known as Gold Rush. Its description of the format and testing explains why the Battlefield 6 version was designed around smaller matches rather than simply maximizing player counts.
How Battlefield 6 Rush’s match size shapes its pace
EA said historical Rush matches typically ranged from 12v12 to 16v16 players. The studio also experimented with 64- and 128-player versions, but found that those larger counts could create overwhelming defenses, stall the frontline, or cause matches to end early in the first sector. Those figures describe EA’s design history and experiments, not independent audience statistics. Portal was the route EA identified for players who wanted to experiment with larger player counts; the leak’s tank sighting alone does not establish the final rules or availability of vehicles in every Rush setup.

Rush’s status has to be separated into three questions: whether the mode exists in the game, whether it is selectable in official matchmaking, and whether players can create it in Portal. Those are not interchangeable.

EA’s July 30, 2026 community update said it was consolidating official matchmaking into fewer, higher-traffic playlists with active mode rotations, aiming for faster queues and fuller human lobbies. After the August 4, 2026 patch, GameSpot reported that Rush had been removed from official playlists and custom searches, but remained accessible through Portal custom games. The report attributed the change to a Battlefield Comms statement about concentrating players in active playlists to improve matchmaking quality. It also said Battlefield Studios acknowledged that some removed modes were community favorites and was considering ways to bring them back. This is a dated status report, not confirmation of the mode’s availability today. Check the current in-game playlists for official matchmaking and Portal for custom options.
