Fallout 76’s Burning Springs update adds a new region in southeastern Ohio, bounty hunting, two public events, and a Radhog C.A.M.P. pet. Bethesda’s release notes dated December 11, 2025, describe the update’s live content; the separate World Pets companion system discussed in September 2026 was still being tested on the Public Test Server (PTS).
What Burning Springs adds to Fallout 76
Burning Springs is a new region of rural southeastern Ohio, reshaped by nuclear destruction and pollution from the Abraxodyne Chemical plant. Its poisonous water and dust storms carry a toxin called Rust. Highway Town, built on an elevated highway, serves as the region’s social hub.

Bethesda called Burning Springs “our largest update since Wastelanders back in 2020.” That is the studio’s characterization of the update, which combines a new questline, bounty hunting, two public events, and additional activities and collectibles.
How to reach Burning Springs and start its story
Players can enter Burning Springs by crossing the bridge at Point Pleasant. To begin the main questline, reach level 30 and tune to the Ohio Distress Signal. The story introduces the Rust King and is intended as the opening chapter of a narrative that continues across multiple updates.
#1 Best Overall
- Bethesda Game Studios, the award-winning creators of Skyrim and Fallout 4, welcome you to Fallout 76, the online prequel where every surviving human is a real person. Work together, or not, to survive. Under the threat of nuclear annihilation, you’ll experience the largest, most dynamic world ever created in the legendary Fallout universe
- Reclamation Day, 2102. Twenty-five years after the bombs fall, you and your fellow Vault Dwellers—chosen from the nation’s best and brightest – emerge into post-nuclear America. Play solo or join together as you explore, quest, build, and triumph against the wasteland’s greatest threats
The Ghoul, voiced by Walton Goggins, points players toward bounty hunting from the Last Resort saloon in Highway Town. The Last Resort is also where bounty hunters take contracts.
How bounty hunting works
Grunt Hunt
Take a poster from the table at the Last Resort to start a Grunt Hunt. Each hunt selects a random location in Burning Springs, and its target receives a mutation that can also affect nearby enemies.

Head Hunt
A premium Bounty Poster can unlock a public Head Hunt. Bethesda’s release notes describe its target as a three-star legendary enemy, accompanied by two-star posse members. Those details reflect the update’s release notes rather than a guarantee about later balance changes.
The two public events and other activities
| Event or activity | What players do |
|---|---|
| Gearin’ Up | Help the Beastmaster collect scrap to armor a Deathclaw for an arena fight, then keep the Deathclaw alive. Bethesda says the event can reward the unique Stimpike, with the Medic’s Legendary Mod pre-installed. |
| Sinkhole Solutions | Help Willow at Scorpion Lake draw out Radscorpions and Stingwings, destroy their dens, and contend with fire and a blinding sandstorm. |
| Dirty Laundry | Find Abraxodyne intel briefcases in this side quest. |
| Fishing | Catch new fish, including a local legend. |
What the Radhog pet is—and where its items are listed
The Radhog is a creature found in Burning Springs and a new C.A.M.P. pet. Bethesda’s release notes list it as an Atomic Shop purchase, but do not establish its current shop availability or price. The Radhog’s bed item is in the Workshop menu’s “Dwellers” section; its Nose Ring is in the Armor Workbench’s “Pet Clothing” section.

- Hydro Tech Exo Power Armor: Deep water power armor or interesting way to catch fish by hand? This Power Armor is probably not best used for that.
- Appalachian Contessa Prefab: Place the Appalachian Contessa in your C.A.M.P. and be the captain of your own ship.
- Live Bait Barrel: Have a fresh selection of fishing bait available in your C.A.M.P. to help you catch some fish.
- Floating Bouy Set: For those who likes to flot things around, even in radiated water
- Charmcaster Fishing Rod: For those who said fising is a boring hobey
World Pets is a separate PTS feature
Bethesda’s September 2026 World Pets posts describe a broader companion system being tested on the PTS, not mechanics confirmed as live in Burning Springs. The tested system lets players summon a Dog, Cat, Radhog, or Deathclaw through the Pip-Boy and issue commands including Attack, Stay, Follow, and Protect. The September notes describe pet leveling and passives; they say pets gain XP while summoned and can reach level 200, with leveling by species. The listed Radhog passives are Goo-Getter, which relates to Toxic-Goo, and Rad-Dration, which relates to High-Radiation Fluids in a Nuke Zone. Bethesda cautions that PTS content is not guaranteed to ship with the tested update.
The September 18 PTS notes describe changes to pet XP, ping commands, default-command settings, and follow-position settings. They also list inconsistent pet XP and distant ping-to-move behavior among known issues. A September 28 PTS note adds pet health-bar display options and reports fixes, including a correction for pet XP between travel times. These are dated test-server notes, not confirmation that every mechanic or fix reached the live game.
