Some Need for Speed Unbound players have reported stutter, FPS drops, and high CPU usage after updates, and an EA community manager said a hotfix was released to try to address one reported issue. The available evidence does not confirm that the hotfix resolved every case or that there is a universal fix in the current build.
What is confirmed about the post-update performance reports?
An EA technical-issues forum thread records player reports of high CPU usage and FPS drops after a September 3 update. An EA community manager, Groguet, replied: “The team has released a hotfix to try to address this issue. Can you confirm if this has been fixed or if this is still happening to you?” Some commenters later said the hotfix helped; others continued to describe concerns. Players commenting on an official Steam announcement also disagreed about performance. Even commenters identifying RTX 3060 systems described different experiences. Do the patch notes confirm a general performance fix?

How to check your own stutter or FPS drops
The steps below are general, low-risk checks—not verified NFS Unbound-specific fixes. Change one thing at a time and note whether it changes the symptom, so you can distinguish a useful diagnostic clue from coincidence.

- Confirm the game build. Check that the game has finished updating, note its installed version, then restart the game after an update.
- Record your setup. Write down your platform, CPU, GPU, GPU driver version, resolution, graphics settings, and any performance-related settings you have changed.
- Check where the problem occurs. Note whether stutter or FPS drops happen in races, free roam, menus, or all of them, and whether the issue began immediately after a particular update.
- Isolate common software variables. Check that the GPU driver and power/performance selection are appropriate for your system. Temporarily disable overlays to see whether behavior changes, then restore them if they make no difference.
- Compare one setting at a time. If you test a graphics or performance setting, record the original value and change only that setting before comparing the same situation in-game.
These checks can help organize a troubleshooting report, but they do not identify a cause by themselves. The available reports do not verify a particular component, driver, setting, or utility as a fix.

- Platform and game version/build.
- CPU, GPU, and GPU driver version.
- Resolution and graphics settings.
- Whether the stutter or FPS drops occur in races, free roam, or both.
- When the problem began, including the update you associate with it if known.
- Whether it persists after restarting the game and whether any single diagnostic change affected it.
FPS figures posted by individual players are not a representative performance target. Differences in systems, settings, locations, and update versions make isolated reports unsuitable for predicting what another PC should achieve.
