Need a nudge or the full solution? The May 19, 2024, edition of Connections is puzzle #343. Its four categories are AFFLUENT, CUT INTO PIECES, OLD-FASHIONED, and FRUIT HOMOPHONES. Hints and the complete answer groups are below.

Hints for Connections #343

  • Yellow: Think of words that describe someone with plenty of money.
  • Green: These words can describe ways to prepare food by cutting it smaller.
  • Blue: These words can describe someone or something conventional or dated.
  • Purple: Each word sounds like the name of a fruit.

Answers for May 19

The answer guide groups the words this way:

Category Words
AFFLUENT FLUSH, LOADED, RICH, WEALTHY
CUT INTO PIECES CHOP, CUBED, DICE, MINCE
OLD-FASHIONED SQUARE, STRAIGHT, STUFFY, TRADITIONAL
FRUIT HOMOPHONES BURY, CURRENT, LEACHY, PAIR

Why the fruit group works

The purple set uses sound-alikes: BURY/berry, CURRENT/currant, LEACHY/lychee, and PAIR/pear. The intended connection is pronunciation, not spelling. How obvious the pairs sound can depend on dialect; some players have questioned CURRENT and LEACHY in particular. A player discussion on Reddit reflects that disagreement: May 19 puzzle discussion.

A note on the published word list

The Fortnite Insider answer guide’s word bank lists STUFF and CUBE, but its solution groups use STUFFY and CUBED. That is an apparent transcription inconsistency in the guide, not a consistent set of grid spellings. The category answers above reproduce the solution groups as published; the discrepancy cannot be resolved from that guide alone. The guide was written by Khadija Saifi and published May 20, 2024: Fortnite Insider’s Connections #343 guide.
