Need a nudge for the December 24, 2024 edition of NYT Connections: Sports Edition? Puzzle #92’s groups point to money, fastballs, NFL teams still without a Super Bowl win, and nicknames that are demonyms. Start with the spoiler-light hints below, then open the answer key when you’re ready.
Hints for Connections: Sports Edition #92
Try these category nudges before revealing the group names or words:
- Yellow: Cash
- Green: A hard throw
- Blue: No Lombardi Trophy
- Purple: Teams named after locals
Tips to solve the December 24 puzzle
- Look for slang. Several words can refer informally to money, which helps separate the yellow group from sports-specific terms.
- Think about fastball vocabulary. The green words are different informal names for a fast pitch.
- Check the NFL clue carefully. The blue group is about teams that had not won a Super Bowl, not teams that had never reached one.
- Consider what a team name calls its people. The purple connection is a demonym: a word for someone from a particular place or region.

How Connections: Sports Edition works
The New York Times Help Center explains that Connections presents 16 words to sort into four groups of four based on a shared connection. Can you replay this Sports Edition puzzle?
The NYT Help Center says Sports Edition has no archive. Although the Help Center describes an archive for the general Connections game for All Access and Games subscribers, that archive should not be taken as a way to replay Sports Edition #92. The Help Center lists the NYT Games website, The Athletic app, and the NYT News app as places to play Sports Edition.
The Help Center says Connections is free to play across platforms, while some tools and archive features are for subscribers; that does not mean every feature or access route is free. Puzzle #92’s date and answer key are identified by the secondary listing from AppsManager, published December 25, 2024; the NYT Help Center explains the game but does not confirm this individual puzzle’s answers.
