Answers for Monday, November 4
The four groups below are reported for game #512 by TechRadar and independently corroborated by Parade.
- Yellow — EQUIP: FURNISH, OUTFIT, PROVISION, STOCK
- Green — INDIVIDUALITY: BEING, CHARACTER, EGO, SELF
- Blue — FURNITURE: CHEST, CONSOLE, VANITY, WARDROBE
- Purple — WORDS WITH APOSTROPHES REMOVED: CANT, ID, SHELL, WERE
Why the purple group works
The tiles omit apostrophes: CANT becomes CAN’T, ID becomes I’D, SHELL becomes SHE’LL, and WERE becomes WE’RE. The printed forms are the game’s tiles; the contractions supply the category connection.

Why STOCK belongs with EQUIP
STOCK can suggest several meanings, but in this set it works as a verb meaning to equip or supply. That makes it fit with FURNISH, OUTFIT and PROVISION.
How NYT Connections works
Connections presents 16 words and asks players to sort them into four groups of four. Each group has a shared theme and is marked with one of four colors: Yellow, Green, Blue or Purple. Yellow is the easiest category and Purple the trickiest. The NYT Help Center says each puzzle has exactly one solution, while the words can be tricky because they may appear to fit more than one category. Editors curate the words and categories using the Oxford Dictionary.
