In both games, its quick attacks reward patience. In Now, its foreleg strikes can also cause bleeding, so breaking the forelegs early is a key defensive tactic.
What is Odogaron?
Odogaron is a Fanged Wyvern known for its speed and scavenging behavior. The official Monster Hunter Now profile describes it as “A fanged wyvern that roams about in search of carcasses. They have a habit of dragging their captured prey and hunks of meat back to their nest.”
Its habitat, weaknesses, materials and combat details are not identical across games. Use the information for the specific game you are playing rather than combining both location lists.

Monster Hunter: World

It identifies the head as the strongest hit zone, making it a priority target when you can attack safely.
How to fight Odogaron
Use openings instead of chasing every attack
Odogaron can chain attacks with little pause. The official Monster Hunter Now profile says, “The intervals between its attacks are short, making it imperative to concentrate on finding openings and judging when best to counter.” Avoid committing to long attacks while it is still moving; wait for a clear recovery and then strike.
Rank #2
- Product size: Approx. H 8.1 x W 9.3 x D 9.4 inches (205 x 235 x 240 mm)
In Monster Hunter: World, the guide describes claw swipes, bites, lunges, tail attacks, turning attacks and wall jumps. Its mobility makes positioning important: be ready for follow-ups after a dodge, and take head attacks when its movement gives you a safe opportunity rather than forcing them.
Target breakable parts
In Monster Hunter Now, the head, forelegs, hindlegs and tail can be broken; the tail must be severed. Prioritize the forelegs if you want to reduce the risk of their bleeding effect, then attack other parts according to your weapon and the opening available.

How to prevent or recover from bleeding
Monster Hunter Now: break the forelegs early
Odogaron’s foreleg strikes may inflict bleeding. The official profile warns that bleeding can cost health with each action and recommends breaking the forelegs early to prevent it. Treat those strikes as a reason to focus on the forelegs before the fight becomes difficult to manage.
Monster Hunter: World: stop moving to recover
The World guide says bleeding causes damage while moving and advises crouching still to recover. Choose a moment when Odogaron cannot immediately punish you, stop moving and watch for a follow-up before resuming the fight.
