The official description says it has subtle effects that improve your chances in different situations; it does not identify those situations or confirm a loot bonus. The original Oblivion manual and damage formula offer useful context, but they should not be treated as proof that every legacy mechanic works the same way in Remastered.
What Luck does in Oblivion Remastered
Bethesda describes Luck as: “Affects various aspects of gameplay in subtle ways, improving your chances in different situations.” That confirms Luck is not meaningless, but the official Remastered level-up article does not list the affected situations, explain a formula, or specify thresholds or caps.
In particular, the cited official explanation does not establish that Luck changes loot quality, loot quantity, or drop rates. It also does not establish that Luck has no effect on those things; the Remastered loot question is simply unanswered by this source.
What the original Oblivion tells us
Luck governed no skills in the original manual
The original Oblivion PC manual says, “Luck has an effect on everything you do, but governs no skills.” This describes the original game, not a Remastered-specific list of mechanics. The manual also gives primary attributes a range of 0–100, while noting that magic, potions, and disease can modify attributes.

Original weapon damage used Luck in an effective-skill adjustment
For the original game, UESP’s complete damage formula documents this adjustment to the skill used in weapon damage calculations:
Skill + 0.4 × (Luck − 50)
Under that original-game formula, Luck 60 corresponds to +4 effective skill, and Luck 100 to +20, before other modifiers. This is a formula reference for original Oblivion; it does not confirm that the same calculation, coverage, or result applies in Remastered.

Is Luck worth leveling?
There is no source-grounded universal answer. Bethesda’s Remastered description confirms subtle effects but does not quantify the benefit of spending points on Luck. The original-game weapon formula can help explain why players may value Luck in the older game, but it is not enough to calculate the return on a Remastered level-up.

- Prioritize practical weaknesses: If you need better combat, magic, or stealth capability now, weigh those needs against an effect Bethesda describes only in broad terms.
- Account for enemy scaling: Bethesda says enemies scale with player level and recommends improving a mix of combat, magic, and stealth skills. Its example warns that quickly raising Mercantile without developing combat skills can leave you too weak for the enemies you encounter. This is general level-up advice, not evidence that Luck is inherently a poor investment.
- Separate confirmed from inherited mechanics: Treat the original damage formula as background, not a guaranteed Remastered benefit, when deciding where to spend points.
How level-up points work
Bethesda says a level-up grants 12 Virtue Points. You can assign up to five points to one attribute and raise up to three attributes in that level-up. The cited page does not give a Luck-specific point cost, so it does not establish exactly how many points a particular Luck increase requires.
For allocation context, Bethesda’s level-up guidance recommends balancing combat, magic, and stealth development because enemies scale with your level. It does not prescribe a Luck build.

What is and is not confirmed
- Confirmed for Remastered: Bethesda says Luck has subtle effects that improve chances in different situations.
- Not specified in that official explanation: Which situations Luck affects, its Remastered calculation or thresholds, its exact level-up point cost, and whether it affects loot.
- Documented for original Oblivion: The manual says Luck governs no skills, and a damage reference gives a Luck-based effective weapon-skill adjustment. Neither source verifies that those details carry over unchanged to Remastered.
