What role does the Occulus Bolt Carbine fill?
A community-maintained weapon reference describes the Occulus Bolt Carbine as a rapid-fire, mid-range carbine with an extended magazine and built-in scope. It characterizes the weapon as accurate when scoped, with controllable recoil, but says its lower base damage can make it less effective than the Instigator Bolt Carbine at removing Majoris and Extremis enemies. Those are community descriptions, not official guidance or independently tested results.
The same reference lists Vanguard and Techmarine as classes that can use it. Confirm availability and behavior in your current game version; official patch notes cited here do not establish class access.
What changed in the balance patches?
Patch 15: base damage increased
Focus Entertainment’s Patch 15 notes list the Occulus Bolt Carbine under PvE firearms balancing and state: “Base damage is increased by 15%.” The notes explain the broader change: “With Auspex scan efficiency reduced we are increasing base damage for almost all primary weapons to compensate.” The 15% figure is the change specified by that patch, not a complete current damage profile.

Patch 10: full-damage range increased
In an earlier change, Focus Entertainment’s Patch 10 notes said: “Occulus Bolt Carbine: Full damage range increased from 20 meters to 30 meters.” This is a historical range adjustment; it does not establish that every current mode or version has an otherwise unchanged range profile.
How does it compare with the Instigator Bolt Carbine?
The community reference presents the Instigator as more effective for removing Majoris and Extremis targets, while describing the Occulus as a scoped, rapid-fire mid-range option. This is a descriptive community comparison, not a current, measured performance ranking. The Occulus, standard Bolt Carbine and Instigator Bolt Carbine are separate weapons; do not treat balance changes for one as changes to the others.
