In October 2025, an Old School RuneScape player set out to eat 500,000 trout in-game. The challenge drew spectators and donations to Edgeville, turning a solo grind into a community event. Later coverage said the player reached the target, then gambled away donated gold in player-run games—but that ending has not been independently confirmed through game records or an official Jagex announcement.
What was the Trout Man challenge?
“Eating trout” meant consuming virtual fish in Old School RuneScape (OSRS), not eating real fish. The player was identified as Lousifer in PC Gamer’s October 23, 2025 report and as Louisifer in The Escapist’s November 4 follow-up; the spelling differs between the two outlets.
The stated target was 500,000 trout. A Reddit post on October 22 described the player eating at Edgeville bank on world 499 and said he had been at it for five days. That is contemporaneous community testimony, not an independently verified progress record. The Reddit post captured the kind of message that brought other players to the scene.
Why did players gather at Edgeville?
Edgeville became a public meeting point as players stopped to watch and donate more trout. PC Gamer’s reporter said they created an account and visited the scene; the article relayed an estimate of about 40 spectators from a Reddit user. The exact crowd size was not an audited count, but the reporting and posts describe a challenge that became more communal as people joined in.

A separate Reddit post, titled “J Mod showed up to watch me eat trout,” reflects the event’s playful attention. PC Gamer also attributed the comment “Godspeed, trout man” to a Jagex moderator called Mod Nin, but the outlet did not provide a fuller name or role. It should be read as a reported moment, not an official Jagex position on the challenge.
Did Trout Man manipulate the trout market?
Players speculated about a possible market effect after trout prices reportedly rose. PC Gamer relayed one player’s claim of buying 5,000 trout for 107 gp each—gp means in-game gold pieces—and cited a third-party tracker showing a sharp increase around October 20, 2025. The reported purchase is an individual account, not a verified market-wide price series.

Neither a price spike nor a player’s purchase establishes that Lousifer deliberately manipulated prices, caused the increase, or sold donated fish for profit. The market theory remained speculation in the coverage, rather than a demonstrated account of his intent or trading.

In a follow-up updated November 4, 2025, The Escapist reported that Louisifer had reached the 500,000-trout target and received 1.1 billion gold in donations. The outlet further said he had stated on Facebook that he gambled the gold away in player-run games of chance, an activity the article described as violating a core game rule.
