To play with a friend in Once Human, join the same region, scenario, and exact server. To switch Worlds, use the World-travel prompt in-game; Worlds are instances within a server, not separate servers. Changing servers or scenarios is a separate signup that can affect your character’s progression and carried-over items.
How do I get onto my friend’s server?
- Check your region. Both players should use the same region. The official Console Launch FAQ, published August 20, 2026, says to check the region shown in the upper-right corner of the sign-in interface.
- Clear the beginner stages. Then, on the scenario-selection screen, choose More Servers.
- Select the exact server. Ask your friend for the server name shown in their character sign-in information, and find that server under the matching scenario. Being in the same region or scenario alone is not enough; you need to join the same server.
- Use an invitation code if the server is full. Your friend can find a Special Invitation Code under the character namecard after signing in. Have them share it with you and follow the current in-game signup prompt.
If you are already on another server, check the scenario’s phase before leaving. The August 2026 FAQ says that before the Rest phase, your first exit from the current server is free: open Scenario → Scenario Description → Scenario Exit, then sign up for your friend’s server. If the scenario has reached Rest, sign up for the other server. Menu wording may vary by platform or update, so follow the prompt shown in your game.
Can PC, mobile, and console players join the same server?
Cross-platform access is not universal. The official FAQ says players can play together when they are on the same server, but servers with the Console prefix are console-exclusive. PC and mobile players may see characters on those servers but cannot enter and play there. Account type can also affect cross-platform availability. Check the target server and account compatibility rather than assuming that visibility means access.
How do I switch Worlds?
A World is an instance inside a server. If you and a friend are on the same server but in different Worlds, use the World-travel point rather than the server or scenario signup screen.

A Windows Central PC guide published July 11, 2024 describes approaching a Teleportation Tower, pressing G, choosing another World, and holding F to switch. Those are dated PC controls, not universal instructions. On your platform, go to the World travel point and follow the current on-screen prompt.
- Inventory and equipped items: The 2024 guide says these stay with your character when changing Worlds.
- Territory: The guide says your base does not move automatically with you; moving the Territory requires a separate action.
What changes when I switch servers or scenarios?
A scenario is a themed mode associated with a server. Scenarios can differ in maps, rules, stories, environmental mechanics, PvE or PvP content, and phases. The official FAQ describes three options at scenario completion: remain on the current server, sign up for a new scenario or server (including with friends through team signup), or return to Eternaland.

Carryover depends on the applicable transfer rules. The FAQ says you can bring selected items from Eternaland using Resource Inheritance Points, while certain categories—including fashions, some character data, most currencies, blueprints, formulas, layouts, and some progress—are retained directly. Do not assume either that everything resets or that everything carries over; check the transfer information shown for the scenario you are joining.
Should our group stay, or sign up for another server?
| Choice | What it means | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Stay on the current server | Continue the scenario there, or remain when it is complete. | Whether your friends are on that exact server and whether you want to continue its scenario. |
| Sign up for another scenario or server | Join a different server, potentially through team signup with friends. | The scenario phase, exit/signup rules, and the destination’s transfer rules. |
| Return to Eternaland | Leave the scenario for Eternaland at scenario completion. | Which items and progress can later be transferred using the applicable rules. |
How do permanent servers differ?
Permanent servers have specific signup and progression rules that differ from ordinary scenario changes. In an official announcement about permanent-server access, the Once Human team said that signing up while your current scenario is still active resets character level and scenario resources such as gear and consumables. Waiting until the scenario ends allows you to merge into a permanent server while preserving progress. The announcement also says characters can be created directly from the permanent-server list, and permanent servers support invitation codes. Read the current in-game notice before choosing.
Two later announcements add dated qualifications:
- September 2025: The developer said permanent-server Worlds would no longer be merged after the September 11 update, and players could voluntarily migrate to a preferred World. It also described a 12-hour initial signup cooldown for permanent servers and servers in settlement. The cooldown increases with repeated signups within a natural month and resets on the first day of the month. This is a dated rule for those server categories, not a general timer for every server transfer.
- December 2025: The developer said permanent-server preselection was limited to the same scenario type and status, required players to choose between preselection and scenario signup, and reserved a selection for 14 days. The announcement also scheduled the closure of the Evolution’s Call and Prismverse’s Clash PvP permanent servers for January 2026. Those dates have passed; check the current server list rather than treating those specific servers as available or assuming their present status.
Official server or Custom Server?
Official servers are the standard choice for joining a friend’s listed server. For a group that wants its own adjustable environment, NetEase describes Custom Servers as officially supported independent servers. Settings can include weather, day/night cycles, character attributes, experience modifiers, resource respawn rates, and building rules. Groups can join with invitation codes or use unlocked servers. Subscriptions are purchased through a dedicated in-game page, with plans varying by capacity and duration; check the current in-game options for details.
Which scenario should friends choose?
Choose the same scenario as well as the same server. PvE and PvP scenarios offer different kinds of play, and the available names and server list can change. The 2024 release FAQ described Manibus as PvE and Evolution’s Call as PvP at launch; those examples should not be taken as a current catalog. For beginners, the August 2026 Console Launch FAQ recommends Manibus (Novice) to learn the mechanics and rules, while noting that scenario features vary.
