Black Sector, also called Zone of Haze, is a Way of Winter dungeon built around ordered symbol puzzles, light management, and multi-stage boss fights. The practical route below follows Kyle Ferreira’s walkthrough published November 4, 2024, so treat its mechanics as dated guidance rather than confirmed current rules: the official January 15, 2026 update discusses broader Pollution Zone changes but does not address this dungeon specifically.
What to bring
Ferreira recommends a fully calibrated T5 gear set, whether you are contributing to a team or attempting a solo run. The guide also suggests The Weaver, Chloro Armor (also called Living Armor), and Utter Delight Whim potions; it says Utter Delight extends the duration of the other two. In the guide’s descriptions, Chloro Armor provides an extra life and The Weaver drops webs when you dodge. Disco Ball, Dreamcatcher, and Harveseed are named as Deviations associated with obtaining the Whim recipes and materials.
For support items, the guide recommends All Purpose Hands, which it describes as instantly repairing your most damaged gear piece, plus plenty of high-quality ammunition. These are recommendations from the 2024 walkthrough, not established current requirements.
How the symbol puzzles work
The opening puzzle teaches the dungeon’s central rule: use the number of glowing dots on each pillar to determine the order in which to destroy matching symbols on a large disc. One glowing dot marks the first symbol; four marks the last. Keep track of the sequence as you progress, because later encounters reuse it.

Light is a survival mechanic
After the opening puzzle, the screen edges darken and a red status indicator begins to build. The walkthrough warns that staying in darkness causes significant damage. Its advice is to sprint between light sources before engaging ordinary enemies. In later rooms, light orbs and pillars become part of both survival and puzzle-solving.
Clear the three-pillar room
- Defeat Rainfall Reapers to make them drop light orbs.
- Pick up an orb and throw it at a pillar to light it. Repeat until all three pillars are lit.
- Read the symbols in the order indicated by the pillars’ glowing-dot counts.
- Destroy the matching symbols on the large disc in that order.
Defeat the Scorcher
On the route to the first main boss room, the guide says you can run past some enemies. It specifically flags the mirror enemy and spiders as threats if you choose to fight them.
Against the powered-up Scorcher, avoid its high-damage attacks and ground hazards while managing the adds. Destroy the Scorcher heads to collect light orbs, then use them to light four pillars. At the central pedestal, rotate the large disc and destroy its symbols in the order shown by the pillars. Once the sequence is solved, the Scorcher becomes damageable; the walkthrough warns that additional adds appear at that point.

Handle the final encounter
Before reaching the final chamber, note the pillar-symbol order for the team sequence. The guide describes four high pillars in the final boss area that may need to be shot in the order indicated by the preceding pillars.

Manage the adds as the fight begins. When four clones appear, their symbols correspond to the pillar sequence. Ferreira’s walkthrough says to kill the clone marked with the missing one-glow-point symbol first, then clear the other clones in order.
Next room: overhead discs
Four overhead discs produce symbols. Destroy them one at a time while handling adds. The boss becomes vulnerable as discs are removed, but the guide recommends waiting until all four discs are down; otherwise, its shield regenerates.
Last phase: lightning and restored light
In the final phase, lightning strikes are marked on the ground. Move quickly out of the red indicators. The guide says the light pillars eventually stop functioning and darkness returns; defeat disciples to collect their light orbs, then hit a pillar to restore its light.

The walkthrough’s route and mechanics are from November 4, 2024. On January 15, 2026, the Once Human Development Team announced a broader Pollution Zone update planned for January 21 (PT), including randomly generated Pollution Zone locations on scenario servers except RaidZone, changes to Pollution Resistance and Sanity behavior, higher Pollution Zone rewards, and more severe gear degradation on death in polluted zones. That announcement does not say whether Zone of Haze or the walkthrough’s dungeon mechanics changed, so it should not be treated as confirmation that this route remains current.
