PixelJunk Nom Nom Galaxy is a genre-mixing game about exploring strange planets, gathering ingredients and building automated soup factories. It is best suited to players who enjoy switching between platforming, construction, resource management and defense; it is less clearly a fit for anyone seeking a focused platformer or a pure management simulator.
What kind of game is Nom Nom Galaxy?
Released for PC on August 3, 2015, PixelJunk Nom Nom Galaxy is developed and published by Q-Games. Its central loop is to explore a planet, collect ingredients from plants and creatures, process them into soup, then ship the product while protecting your operation from wildlife and rival companies. Steam’s listing describes a sandbox blending platforming, base building, tower defense and combat; the US PlayStation Store listing also emphasizes exploration, co-op platforming, resource management and construction.
That blend is the main consideration when deciding whether it sounds appealing. You are not only traversing levels or only optimizing a factory: exploration supplies the operation, construction expands it, and threats make protecting it part of the routine.
How the modes and co-op work
Available modes depend on platform. Steam lists single-player, online co-op and shared/split-screen co-op, and describes online play for up to four players. The US PlayStation Store lists two-player split-screen and online co-op for up to four, with drop-in/drop-out play; it says PS Plus is required for online play.

For a less competition-focused option, Steam lists S.O.O.P. Simulator mode, which removes corporate competition. Steam also lists custom-map tools for creating and sharing planets, making experimentation with player-made environments part of the PC feature set.
What do Nom Nom Galaxy reviews suggest?
Storefront ratings offer a useful but limited snapshot, not a substitute for reading individual reviews. At the time of the 2026 retrieval, Steam displayed a “Mostly Positive” all-time summary, with 77% positive from 809 reviews. The US PlayStation Store displayed 3.94 stars from 11K ratings. Both counts and ratings can change, and the figures come from different platform audiences and rating systems, so they are not directly comparable.

One Metacritic review result offered a mixed response: it praised the art direction, sound and story, but said the reviewer was not engaged by the process. That is one critic’s perspective, not evidence of a broader consensus. Metacritic’s review page provides that individual review context.
Who is likely to enjoy it?
- Consider it if you like games that alternate between exploration and building, and want to turn collected resources into a working production line.
- Consider co-op if you want to share platforming and factory work; check the player limits and local/online options for your platform before buying.
- Look at S.O.O.P. Simulator if the factory-building idea appeals more than competing with rival companies. This mode is listed on Steam.
- Look elsewhere if you want one tightly focused activity. The premise deliberately combines several systems, so it may not satisfy someone looking only for a conventional platformer or a dedicated business simulator.
Platforms, price and PC requirements
Steam lists a Windows PC version, while the US PlayStation Store lists a PS4 version that can also be played on PS5; Sony notes that some PS4 features may be absent on PS5. Availability and pricing are storefront- and region-specific. The US PlayStation Store displayed $14.99 when checked in 2026, but that price can change; confirm the current listing for your region before purchasing.

Nom Nom Galaxy is worth considering if the appeal of a hybrid adventure—gathering ingredients, automating soup production and defending a base—outweighs the desire for a single, narrowly defined genre. Its co-op and creative options add alternatives to solo progression, while its mix of systems is also its clearest caveat: the game’s appeal depends on wanting to move between them.
