It added Payload, an arctic map called Erebus, two guardian pilots—Scout Ayana and Mage Yuri—and new ways for cat pilots to support teammates. The test is over; the Epic Games Store page linked in contemporary coverage currently returns a 404 page.
What changed in Playtest 3
GamesBeat’s September 4, 2024 report described Nyan Heroes as a team-based hero shooter in which small cats pilot giant mechs. The third open pre-alpha test expanded that setup with a new objective mode and map, two guardians, passive Augments, and the embark mechanic. It also added character reward add-ons and emotes. How Payload worked
Payload matched two teams of six: attackers advanced a payload, while defenders tried to stop it from reaching its destination. The route crossed three checkpoints on Erebus, the newly introduced arctic map. Matches alternated randomly between Payload and Stronghold, the existing mode built around capturing an objective.
Erebus offered high and low ground, and players could use guardian abilities and routes accessible only in Nyan form. That made the objective more than a straight escort: teams had to contest the payload while using the map’s verticality and cat-only paths to reposition.

What Scout Ayana and Mage Yuri added
Playtest 3 introduced two guardian pilots. Ayana, the Scout, was presented as a fit for exploration and alerting teammates to threats. Yuri, the Mage, used spells and curses. Their distinct roles offered teams additional ways to approach fights, though the coverage did not report measured balance or performance differences.
How embark and Augments worked
Embark let a small cat pilot climb onto a teammate’s mech and shoot alongside them while remaining in cat form. It added a cooperative option for moving and fighting together, distinct from simply piloting a mech.

Augments supplied passive effects, including health, armor, and speed boosts, as well as modifiers. The report does not specify exact values or a complete list of available Augments.
What the developers said
Max Fu, creative director and CEO of 9 Lives Interactive, said the team had “worked tirelessly to deliver the next chapter of Nyan action to life,” and said it was excited for players to compete in the Battledome with new strategies and experiences unique to its cat-centric world. The remarks were quoted by GamesBeat.

Earlier 2024 coverage described eight guardian classes at that point in development, but that figure should not be read as a confirmed Playtest 3 roster count. GamesBeat’s March 2024 report provides that earlier context.
