There Are No Ghosts at the Grand is a first-person mystery adventure from Bristol indie studio Friday Sundae, in which an American inherits a run-down English seaside hotel and spends his days restoring it and his nights investigating supernatural activity. The game is planned for late 2026 on PC and Xbox platforms, including Xbox Game Pass; a free demo is listed on Steam.

What is There Are No Ghosts at the Grand?

In the game, Chris David unexpectedly inherits the Grand Hotel, a dilapidated property on the English coast. The story combines hotel renovation, mystery-solving and ghost encounters, with talking power tools, unusual townsfolk, a sardonic cat and a narrator whose motives may not be straightforward. Friday Sundae describes the title as its debut game.

Xbox frames it as part renovation game, part ghost story and part musical. Creative Director and Friday Sundae co-founder Anil Glendinning sums up the premise: “You’ll renovate. You’ll investigate. You’ll duet.”

What do you do in the game?

The Steam listing presents the challenge as 30 days and 30 nights. The core rhythm alternates between work on the hotel in daylight and supernatural investigation after dark.

By day: restore the hotel

Renovation is the daytime focus: the player works to bring the Grand Hotel back to life. The tools themselves can talk, making the practical restoration loop part of the game’s unusual character as well as its setting.

By night: investigate the supernatural

After dark, the hotel becomes the setting for ghost encounters and mystery-solving. The day-and-night structure ties the hotel’s physical restoration to its secrets, rather than treating renovation and the supernatural story as separate activities.

Music is part of play

Musical sequences are integrated into the story and involve player action and choices, rather than serving only as cutscenes. Xbox says songs can be skipped, so players who prefer to move past them are not required to sit through the musical sequences.

When does There Are No Ghosts at the Grand come out?

The full game is planned for late 2026, but the cited listings do not establish an exact launch day. Steam currently gives a Q4 2026 release window, while gamescom lists the release as end of 2026. Friday Sundae’s site and Xbox’s announcement describe a 2026 release. These are current listings for a game still in development, not a confirmed final date; check the store pages for changes.
