What ore traits do in The Forge
Ore traits are additional effects associated with selected ores during equipment crafting. Depending on the ore, a trait can add damage, critical chance, defense, area damage, dodging, or another combat effect. A trait is distinct from an ore’s basic contribution to the crafting recipe.
Compatibility matters: a trait may work on weapons, armor, or both. Check the effect’s equipment eligibility before spending rare materials on a recipe. Published community tables also suggest that an ore’s share of a recipe can affect its trait contribution, but the available sources do not establish a universal ratio or threshold. Verify the current in-game behavior rather than treating a guide’s recipe percentages as guaranteed.
How to choose a trait for your build
Start with the job your equipment needs to do, then compare eligibility, effect, trade-off, and how reliably you can obtain the ore. The largest-looking damage number is not automatically the best choice if the effect does not fit your weapon, armor, or play style.

- Direct damage or critical chance: Consider offensive traits that improve damage or critical potential, provided they apply to the equipment you are crafting.
- Damage over time or area damage: Poison or area effects can suit different combat situations; check their trigger conditions and whether they are weapon or armor traits.
- Control: Freezing and similar effects may help hinder opponents, but confirm the current effect and eligible equipment in the game.
- Survivability and sustain: Defensive, damage-reduction, or lifesteal effects can support staying power. Compare any offensive sacrifice or other stat trade-off against your build’s needs.
- Mobility: Dodge or stamina-related effects can be more valuable to a mobile setup than a straightforward damage increase.
Trait descriptions and values can change as the game is updated. Treat broad lists and exact build recipes from community guides as starting points, not proof of a universal best setup.

The Forge Roblox Wiki guide, undated and accessed in 2026, describes the following examples. The listed rates are that guide’s reported chances, not official or independently verified live-game drop rates; updates may have changed them.

These examples are not a complete or authoritative current roster. A separate guide published September 14, 2026 and a community-maintained Fandom table list additional categories and ores, including freezing, damage reduction, lifesteal, and stamina-related effects. Their coverage and values have not been independently verified against the live game. One guide claims there are 11 traits, but other guides list more, so an exact current total is not established.
How to use drop-rate claims
A rate such as 1/569 is a guide’s stated chance for a listed source, not a promise that a specific number of attempts will produce the ore. The cited guide does not establish that its rates are official or current. Use them to compare reported rarity only, and check the game before committing to a build that depends on a scarce ore.

When a guide recommends an exact ore share or crafting ratio, treat it as version-sensitive advice. The available tables do not establish that one ratio works across all equipment, ores, or game updates. Confirm both the trait’s compatibility and its effect in your current recipe.

“Ore traits” can also refer to characteristics of ore in geology. That is a different topic: the USGS thesaurus uses ore deposits to mean geological concentrations of minerals. This article uses the phrase in the Roblox The Forge sense because the title also appears in that game community’s “ORE TRAITS!!” post and linked “Ore Traits Spreadsheet.”
