Hints for Connections #271
Try these nudges in order. Each points toward a group without giving away its words:
- Things a seamstress would be familiar with.
- Different methods or categories related to what we eat.
- Attitude.
- Each word needs its final letter removed to make the connection work.
Category names
Stop here if you want to solve the groups yourself. The four categories are:
- Things to sew
- Ways to preserve food
- Sharp quality
- Birds minus last letter

- Things to sew: DART, HEM, PLEAT, SEAM
- Ways to preserve food: CAN, CURE, DRY, FREEZE
- Sharp quality: BITE, EDGE, PUNCH, SPICE
- Birds minus last letter: CONDO, HAW, HERO, LOO
The last group works by restoring one final letter to each entry: CONDO becomes condor, HAW becomes hawk, HERO becomes heron, and LOO becomes loon.

Can you replay Connections #271?
The New York Times Help Center says, “The new Connections archive allows All Access and Games Subscribers to play the full archive of Connections puzzles from as far back as June 12, 2023!” See the official Connections archive guidance for current access details. The Help Center says archive progress and history require a New York Times account, archive play counts toward Connections statistics but not streaks, and a completed archive puzzle cannot be replayed. The archive is available on the web and in the Games app; access is for All Access and Games subscribers.
