How Connections works
Connections presents a grid of 16 words. The goal is to sort them into four groups of four by finding the shared link in each group. The groups use colors to indicate difficulty; Forbes describes yellow as usually easiest, blue and green as intermediate, and purple as often the hardest and frequently based on wordplay.
