Nintendo Music is a streaming app for Nintendo game soundtracks, not a general music service. It launched on 31 October 2024, and the catch is that access requires an active Nintendo Switch Online membership, sold separately. You do not need a Nintendo Switch console, but you do need a Nintendo Account and a supported device in a country where the service is available.
What Nintendo Music is—and what it isn’t
Nintendo Music lets members stream music from Nintendo games, browse soundtracks and playlists, and download tracks in the app for offline listening. Nintendo’s launch announcement described searching by game, track or playlist, and browsing by game screenshots. It is a catalogue of Nintendo game music, not a general-purpose streaming service for music from all artists and labels. Nintendo said more music would be added over time, so its selection can change. Nintendo’s 13 November 2024 launch announcement
Nintendo Canada’s service page, accessed in 2026, describes a catalogue of more than 250 hours across over 130 titles. That is Nintendo’s published figure, not an independent count. The US App Store listing names examples such as Mario Kart World, Pikmin 4, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Splatoon 3, Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Super Mario Odyssey; those are examples, not a complete catalogue. The catch: an active membership is required
Nintendo Music is included with Nintendo Switch Online at no additional charge for members, but it is not permanently free to use without a membership. Nintendo requires a Nintendo Account and any active Nintendo Switch Online membership, sold separately. A free trial may be available to eligible accounts; trial eligibility and auto-renewal terms apply, so it should not be treated as a free tier. Nintendo says a Switch console is not required. Where you can listen
Nintendo lists compatible smartphones and tablets, a browser on a PC or laptop, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. The browser player is intended for computers, not smart devices, and some app functions are unavailable there. The US App Store listing specifies iOS 16.0 or later for its iOS app; that requirement applies to the listed iOS version and should not be assumed to describe Android requirements. Availability varies by country, and Nintendo warns that features may vary by location and change. Check Nintendo’s local Nintendo Music page and your device’s app store rather than assuming the service is offered everywhere. Nintendo’s Americas support table concerns Switch Online service and feature availability broadly; it is not a definitive country-by-country list for every Nintendo Music feature.
