The comparison needs a qualification: the periods differ, and the PS5 figure counts shipments while Nintendo’s later materials describe the Switch 2 figure as sell-through.
How many Switch 2 consoles sold in the first four days?
Nintendo announced on June 11, 2025, that Switch 2 had sold more than 3.5 million units worldwide in the four days following its June 5 launch. In its first-quarter explanatory materials, Nintendo described the measure as sell-through. The announcement called it the highest global sales level for any Nintendo hardware within its first four days. Nintendo’s June 11 announcement and first-quarter materials provide the company’s figures and terminology.

How does that compare with the original Switch and PS5?
Switch 2 topped both cited first-month totals in fewer days, but the figures are not like-for-like. The original Switch figure covers its first month on sale; the PS5 figure is a shipment total for its first month, not a reported consumer sell-through total.

What the comparison does—and does not—show
The figures support saying Switch 2 surpassed those two cited first-month totals within four days. They do not establish that it sold faster than every console across the industry under the same time window and measurement method. Nintendo’s record claim is narrower: Switch 2 achieved the highest global first-four-day sales level for Nintendo hardware.

The totals also do not establish equal availability, supply conditions, or demand across the three launches. A comparable four-day PS5 figure and a supply-adjusted comparison are not established by these cited figures, so extrapolating daily rates would be misleading.

Nintendo’s announcement noted that Mario Kart World launched as a Switch 2 exclusive on June 5 and identified a console bundle featuring the game. That provides launch context, but the sales totals alone do not show how much the game or bundle contributed.

Nintendo later reported 5.82 million Switch 2 hardware units for the fiscal quarter ended June 30, 2025. That is a separate quarter total, not an additional amount to add to the four-day figure. Nintendo’s first-quarter materials.
