Nintendo revealed Switch 2 on January 16, 2025, but it did not announce a March launch. The January announcement gave only a 2025 release window; Nintendo later confirmed the console would launch on June 5, 2025.
What happened to the January-and-March prediction?
Only the January part was right. Nintendo announced Switch 2 on January 16, 2025, and said it would be released sometime in 2025. The announcement did not name March as the launch month or give a specific release date. Nintendo’s January 16 announcement pointed to an April 2 Nintendo Direct for more information.

When did Nintendo Switch 2 come out?
Nintendo announced the release date as June 5, 2025, on April 2. Its US announcement also identified Mario Kart World as a launch title. Nintendo’s published schedule lists both the Switch 2 hardware and Mario Kart World for June 5, while noting that dates may change and vary by region. Nintendo’s US release announcement and Nintendo’s product schedule document the date.
What Nintendo confirmed in January—and what it did not
The January reveal established that the successor to Nintendo Switch would arrive in 2025, but left the exact timing open. That announcement fulfilled Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa’s May 2024 commitment to announce a successor within that fiscal year; it was not a promise that the console would launch in March 2025.

In its April 2, 2025 US announcement, Nintendo of America listed suggested retail prices of $449.99 for the console and $499.99 for a bundle that included Mario Kart World digitally.
