Yes—a new Pokémon series entry is currently announced for Nintendo Switch 2 next year. Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are scheduled for a simultaneous worldwide release in 2027, exclusively on Switch 2. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have announced the games, so older speculation that a new Pokémon game might be two years away does not describe the current official schedule.
What Pokémon games are announced for Switch 2?
Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves: 2027
The Pokémon Company announced Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves on February 27, 2026, calling them new entries in the Pokémon series and setting a simultaneous worldwide release for 2027. Nintendo likewise lists the games as coming exclusively to Switch 2. These are the games that answer the question of whether Switch 2 will get a new Pokémon series entry next year. The Pokémon Company’s announcement and Nintendo’s news page provide the official details.

2027 is a release window, not a specific launch date. Nintendo’s May 2026 product schedule lists both titles for 2027 and says launch dates and titles may change. No exact day or month has been announced. Nintendo’s May 2026 schedule carries that caveat.
Pokémon Champions: a separate 2026 game
Pokémon Champions is a different game, announced for 2026 on Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and mobile. It should not be confused with Winds and Waves, or described as the tenth generation: the official announcement does not identify it that way. The Pokémon Company’s announcement gives its announced platforms and timing.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A: already available
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is a separate release. Nintendo’s schedule lists its Switch 2 Edition and the Mega Dimension bundle for October 29, 2026; neither is the 2027 release window for Winds and Waves. Nintendo’s schedule distinguishes these entries.
What is known about Winds and Waves—and what is not?
The Pokémon Company has shown a natural landscape featuring islands and a vast ocean, introduced the protagonists, and revealed the first partner Pokémon. The announcement also warns that the images are conceptual and that not all footage represents actual gameplay. Treat the early visuals as a preview, not a complete description of the finished game. The official announcement includes that qualification.

The confirmed version distinction is limited: the games have different names and player-character outfits, but share the announced Switch 2 platform and 2027 worldwide release window. The announcement does not establish differences in gameplay between the two versions, so their names and artwork are not evidence of separate mechanics or features.
What do the tenth-generation leaks say?
The specific leak report referenced in the original claim, and the date it allegedly predicted, are not established by the available official announcements. A claim that the next generation is “two years away” should therefore be treated as unverified speculation, not as a competing confirmed schedule. The firm public information is that Winds and Waves, described by The Pokémon Company as new entries in the series, are currently scheduled for 2027.

The announcements do not explicitly label the games “Generation 10.” It is safer to use their announced names and describe them as new Pokémon series entries rather than attach an unconfirmed generation number.

If you want to play Pokémon Winds or Pokémon Waves, the announced platform is Nintendo Switch 2; neither title has been announced for the original Switch. That makes Switch 2 the relevant console for these games, though their 2027 window is not a guarantee of a particular release date. Readers without the console can check current availability for the Nintendo Switch 2 console.
There is also Pokémon activity on Switch 2 before 2027, but it is useful to keep the titles separate. The Pokémon Company reported that Pokémon Pokopia passed five million copies worldwide in its first four months after its March 5, 2026 launch; the figure comes from Nintendo data and includes digital versions. That is a sales result for Pokopia, not a forecast or sales claim about Winds and Waves. The Pokémon Company’s statement gives the figure and its basis.
