Game developers gained access to Denuvo’s optional Nintendo Switch Emulator Protection middleware through Nintendo’s Developer Portal, Irdeto announced on August 23, 2023. Irdeto says the tool inserts checks into a game’s code to block gameplay on PC emulators. That describes the product’s intended function—not proof that it stopped piracy, that any particular game uses it, or that it has no effect on performance.
What Denuvo’s Switch Emulator Protection is
Irdeto describes Nintendo Switch Emulator Protection as middleware that developers can integrate into a game’s build process. Its stated purpose is to detect emulator use through checks in the game code and block gameplay when a player tries to run the Switch version on a PC emulator. The announcement framed this as a way to address a scenario in which someone could play an emulated Switch version on PC rather than buying or playing the PC release.
The product is a developer tool, not a consumer setting or a blanket protection Nintendo enabled across Switch games. Irdeto announced that it was authorized middleware available in the Nintendo Developer Portal’s middleware section; developers would decide whether to use it. Irdeto’s August 23, 2023 announcement
Availability does not confirm game adoption
The announcement establishes that developers could access the tool. It does not identify released Switch games that implemented it. The official materials cited here do not establish how many titles adopted the protection, which emulators it can block, or whether it reduced piracy or affected sales. So the accurate answer to “Do Switch games already use Denuvo?” is that public information cited here does not confirm any specific title.

Irdeto’s separate 2022 announcement introduced the product, but it likewise does not provide a verified list of released games using it or Switch-specific effectiveness results. Irdeto’s August 24, 2022 announcement
What the performance claim means
Irdeto said the protection has “no impact on the gaming experience.” That is the vendor’s claim, not an independently verified Switch performance result: the cited announcement provides no Switch-specific benchmark or performance test. Without measurements from deployed games, it is not possible to say how the middleware affects loading, frame rates, or other aspects of play in practice.

How this fits Nintendo’s broader anti-piracy efforts
Denuvo’s Switch middleware addresses one specific method: running a Switch game through an emulator on PC. Nintendo describes a broader intellectual-property enforcement approach that includes legal action, consumer awareness, technology, and efforts to improve intellectual-property laws. Its FAQ also addresses unauthorized copies, circumvention devices, and emulator software. Denuvo is therefore one optional technical measure, not a description of Nintendo’s entire anti-piracy program. Nintendo’s Intellectual Property & Piracy FAQ
