For the Takeda Shingen encounters covered by available guides, prepare for a three-phase fight at The Battle of Mikatagahara: use Water, consider Purity, and change your response to his spear attacks as fire and then wind enter the fight. The move-by-move advice below comes from a community-verified guide last updated for game version v1.04; later patches may change details. A boss-video description also identifies human and monster forms, but does not establish a complete encounter order or route.
Where the fight takes place and what to prepare
Nioh3.net places its three-phase Takeda Shingen boss fight at The Battle of Mikatagahara and recommends level 43 or higher. That is the guide’s suggested preparation, not an official level requirement. The same guide lists Water and Purity as weaknesses, and Fire and Wind as resistances. It reports that the Crucible inflicts Life Corrosion, and that Shingen adds fire to his spear in a later phase and wind in the last. These are guide-reported details based on community testing, not official confirmation.

The guide reports fire appearing at about 75% health and wind at about 25%. Treat those as approximate, version-specific phase markers rather than guaranteed triggers. The guide was updated February 25, 2026, and identifies its game version as v1.04: Nioh3.net’s Takeda Shingen boss guide.
How to answer Shingen’s attacks
The following tells and counters are recommendations from the Nioh3.net guide, not guaranteed answers for every patch. Learn each wind-up, then avoid committing to a long attack when a counter or follow-up is likely.

#1 Best Overall
| Attack | Tell described by the guide | Guide’s suggested response |
|---|---|---|
| Spear Strikes | A sequence of sweeping hits | Parry the string in Samurai style. |
| Crimson Slam | An aura gathers as Shingen raises his weapon high | Time Burst Break for the moment of impact. |
| Impale | A lunging thrust with a black-and-yellow aura | Dodge sideways rather than backward. |
| Counter Stance | He raises his fan and white spinning lines appear | Stop attacking and wait for the stance to end. |
| Fire Stream | A line of flame rises from the ground | Dodge sideways; the guide describes this as safer. |
| Grab Attack | A slow wind-up followed by a short-range grab | Dodge, then use the recovery window to attack. |
Choosing Samurai or Ninja style
Team NINJA describes Samurai as a style built around powerful techniques that break defenses, while Ninja emphasizes agility and aerial finesse. The official system guide also says that Ninja Ninjutsu includes ranged attacks such as shuriken and moves that close distance quickly. It does not declare either style best against Shingen; choose based on the openings you can reliably use.
- Try Samurai if you want to focus on parrying the spear string and using powerful techniques against his defenses, as the third-party boss guide recommends.
- Try Ninja if mobility or ranged pressure suits your approach. Team NINJA says a successful Evade recovers Ki and replenishes Ninjutsu and Arts gauges. That is a general system benefit, not a Shingen-specific counter.
- Use Footstool Jump selectively. Team NINJA says it can stagger an enemy and land you behind them; the official page does not identify it as a recommended answer to a particular Shingen move.
For descriptions of styles, Evade, Ninjutsu and Footstool Jump, see Team NINJA’s Nioh 3 system page.

What is established about the human and monster forms
PowerPyx’s all-boss video description labels separate segments “Takeda Shingen (Human Form)” and “Takeda Shingen (Monster Form).” That supports identifying two forms shown in that video, but does not establish that they represent every Shingen encounter, whether they are separate missions or rematches, or the authoritative progression order. See the PowerPyx all-boss video page.
A PlayStation.Blog hands-on report from September 25, 2025 describes the demo’s Shingen as a large tiger demon with fast claw combinations, wide slams, and, in the Dark Realm, aerial feints and fireball projectiles. The writer did not defeat him during the demo time limit, so these are encounter impressions rather than a successful strategy walkthrough. The report explains that a red enemy glow signals an unblockable attack and a perfectly timed Style Shift triggers Burst Break: PlayStation.Blog’s Tokyo Game Show hands-on report.

About Takeda Shingen
Team NINJA’s character overview identifies Takeda Shingen as a Sengoku daimyo from Kai Province, known as the “Tiger of Kai.” It lists Will de Renzy-Martin as his English voice actor and Takaya Hashi as his Japanese voice actor. See the official Nioh 3 character overview.
