Its appeal comes with a slow, exposition-heavy opening and mature themes, so it is a stronger fit for readers who want layered otome drama than for anyone seeking light, brisk romance. This spoiler-conscious review looks at what the game offers and where its approach may not work for every player.
What is Olympia Soirée?
Olympia Soirée is a single-player adventure-romance game for Nintendo Switch, developed by IDEA FACTORY and published by Aksys Games. It is a visual novel: expect extensive reading, illustrated scenes, music, character relationships, choices, routes, and endings rather than action-focused gameplay. Aksys describes choices as shaping the story and says replay can reveal more details and endings. Aksys Games’ official game page

Those language, format, and download details are specific to the UK listing. Nintendo UK listing
How does the story and setting work?
Olympia is the last surviving member of her clan, isolated from the rest of the world. She travels to Tenguu Island to perform a ritual that can restore the sun. The island is divided into Red, Blue, and Yellow districts, each governed by a rigid hierarchy. As Olympia moves through this society, she encounters people labeled “colorless,” a marginalized group pushed outside its established order.

#1 Best Overall
- An extraordinary, all-new adventure from Otomate, premier developers of unique story-based games including an all-star voice cast.
- Enter a rich, multi-layered world filled with characters to meet and relationships to develop.
- Multiple paths to explore - your every choice will determine how the story evolves. Return to the game multiple times to uncover new details and endings.
- An extensive tale to read, enhanced by breathtaking artwork and a stirring original musical score.
Romance is bound up with the larger conflict: Olympia is expected to find a partner, and that expectation connects to both saving the world and continuing her lineage. That setup gives the routes a role in the fantasy plot rather than making them separate romantic interludes. It also means marriage and reproduction are part of the story’s pressures, not incidental background details. The fictional color hierarchy is a fantasy premise; reviewers differ on how successfully the game handles its social themes, and it should not be treated as a direct stand-in for any real-world system.
What works well?
Distinctive art and character appeal
Reviewers commonly praise the character designs and artwork, along with the romance and voice work. The visual presentation helps give the island and its cast a strong identity, which matters in a story that asks players to spend much of their time reading and getting to know characters.
Routes connect romance to the world
The premise gives relationship choices a wider context: Olympia’s personal future is entangled with the island’s social order and the effort to restore sunlight. RPG Fan’s 20 September 2021 review rated the game 93/100, praising its mix of traditional and modern otome elements and its social themes. That is one critic’s assessment, not a guarantee that every player will respond to the themes in the same way. RPG Fan review

Replay has a narrative purpose
Choices, paths, and multiple endings make replay part of the design. Aksys says returning to the game can uncover details and endings that were not available on an earlier playthrough. This suits players who enjoy seeing how different relationships change the story; it is less compelling if you prefer a single, compact narrative.

The opening can feel slow
Several reviewers describe the common opening as heavy on exposition and slow to reach the individual routes. Siliconera’s 7 September 2021 review excerpt says pacing improves after the routes begin, while criticizing the information dumps and the prominence of the class system and marriage-and-pregnancy expectations. If you need a story to establish its momentum quickly, the early stretch may test your patience. Siliconera review
The social themes are divisive
The story makes prejudice and class hierarchy central to its setting, but that ambition does not land equally for all reviewers. Some value the attempt to connect romance with social change; others question the treatment of the hierarchy and Olympia’s place within it. The game’s fictional framework may invite discussion, but it does not guarantee a satisfying or nuanced treatment for every player.

Some endings are harsh
Bad endings can be disturbing rather than merely bittersweet. Cubed3’s 18 July 2022 review excerpt praises aspects of the art and some routes but criticizes the exposition required to get started and the bad endings. Some review coverage also flags sexual violence as a plot element in certain endings. This is a spoiler-conscious warning, not a route-by-route account. Cubed3 review

It is a less obvious choice if you want a fast opening, consistently light romance, or a story free of violence and sexual themes. These are fit judgments based on the game’s premise and review coverage, not claims of firsthand play.
