Blizzard’s April 16, 2024 Overwatch 2 update opened Season 10 with a limited-time Clash trial on Hanaoka, added Venture to the hero lineup, introduced Mythic Prisms and changed Competitive systems. It also adjusted heroes across all three roles. These are historical patch details, not a guide to the game’s current balance or policies.
What changed in the April 16, 2024 Overwatch 2 patch?
The retail update marked the start of Season 10. Its major additions were the Clash trial and Hanaoka, Venture’s arrival, a new Mythic Shop currency, and revisions to Weekly Challenges and Competitive. Blizzard also changed leaver penalties, social settings and multiple heroes, then fixed bugs across the game. The official April 16 patch notes are the complete record for this update; Blizzard’s Season 10 preview gives launch context.

How did the Clash trial work?
Blizzard ran Clash as a limited-time Arcade trial from April 16 through April 29, 2024. The mode used five objectives arranged in a line across a mirrored map, with only one active at a time. Capturing the active objective scored one point and activated the next objective toward that team’s side; an enemy capture reversed the direction.
There were two ways to win:
- Reach five points by capturing objectives.
- Capture the final objective on the enemy side, which won the match regardless of the score.
The trial’s new map, Hanaoka, drew on the visual themes of Hanamura. These dates describe the 2024 trial, not the mode’s present availability.

What did Season 10 change about heroes and rewards?
Venture joined the roster
Venture became playable with the update and could enter Competitive immediately. The patch adjusted damage across Drill Dash and Clobber, as well as Tectonic Shock’s vertical knockback; the specific changes are in the hero table below. Separately, Blizzard’s Season 10 preview said that players who completed the new-player experience would have immediate access to past, present and future heroes, starting with Venture.
Mythic Prisms and the Mythic Shop
The update added Mythic Prisms and a Mythic Shop path for Mythic skins. In the April 2024 system described in the patch notes, a skin started at 50 Prisms, each customization level cost 10, and a skin with all available customizations cost 80. Completing the Premium Battle Pass could award 80 Prisms; players could also purchase Prisms in-game or through their platform marketplace. These are the Season 10-era values and availability, not a statement of current prices or offerings.

Weekly Challenges and Battle Pass rewards
Blizzard reduced the number of Weekly Challenges and added Battle Pass XP rewards at weekly milestones. Overwatch Coins that had previously been earned through Weekly Challenges moved into the Battle Pass, where they were available to all players.
What changed in Competitive and player settings?
Leaver penalties
The April 2024 notes added Unranked thresholds measured across a rolling window of 20 games: leaving two triggered a five-minute queue suspension, while leaving 10 or more triggered a 48-hour suspension in most modes. Completed Competitive games counted in that Unranked window. In Competitive, leaving 10 games resulted in a season ban regardless of how many games had been completed; repeated departures could still lead to a ban after as few as five games. These are the penalties announced in this patch and may not reflect later rules.

Groups, ranks and match history
The patch removed the previous group restrictions and classified parties as Narrow or Wide. Narrow groups were limited to players within five divisions in Bronze through Diamond and three divisions in Master; Grandmaster and Champion players could not form Narrow groups. Wide groups could expect longer queues and smaller rank-progress changes, and parties of four could not queue as Wide.
Role Queue end-of-season titles specified the role reached, such as Champion Tank, Support or Damage. Role rank cards gained access to match history, and match history could open a Game Report. Blizzard also renamed the Volatile rank modifier to Demotion, introduced Wide and Demotion Protection modifiers, and changed rank-card presentation.

Competitive Points and Golden weapons
Golden weapons could be purchased using either Legacy Competitive Points or 2024 Competitive Points, but the two currencies could not be combined for a single purchase.
Chat and name privacy
Players whose Endorsement Level fell to 0 after action for disruptive behavior could not use text or voice chat until they returned to Level 1; Blizzard said the restriction applied in most modes. The revised Hide My Name option anonymized a player’s BattleTag to others in a match and added separate controls for hiding it from friends and group members.
Which heroes changed in the April 16 patch?
The figures below are the values Blizzard listed on April 16, 2024. They describe that patch only, not current hero balance. Some changes shifted damage between impact and damage over time rather than simply increasing or decreasing a hero’s overall damage.
| Role | Hero | April 16 change |
|---|---|---|
| Tank | Doomfist | Empowered Rocket Punch was no longer consumed if its windup was canceled with Seismic Slam or Power Block. |
| Tank | Junker Queen | Carnage impact damage increased from 90 to 105. |
| Tank | Reinhardt | Earthshatter knockdown increased from 2.75 to 3 seconds; shockwave range increased from 20 to 25 meters. |
| Tank | Sigma | Experimental Barrier movement speed increased from 16.5 to 20 meters per second. Blizzard said the change was intended to help protect allies farther away. |
| Tank | Wrecking Ball | Grappling Claw could be retracted by holding jump while attached to terrain. Canceling before reaching ramming speed put it on a one-second cooldown; Hack, Hinder and stuns still caused the full cooldown. Its maximum-duration timer no longer triggered unless he reached ramming speed. Adaptive Shield could be reactivated to redistribute up to 300 overhealth among nearby allies, capped at 75 per person; its detection radius increased from 10 to 13 meters. Minefield health increased from 50 to 60. |
| Damage | Sombra | Virus damage over time decreased from 100 to 90 total. |
| Damage | Tracer | Recall cooldown increased from 12 to 13 seconds. Pulse Bomb’s base projectile size decreased from 0.2 to 0.1 meters, and its total projectile size became 0.25 meters. Blizzard said the intent was more downtime before reengaging and a greater precision requirement for Pulse Bomb. |
| Damage | Venture | Drill Dash impact damage decreased from 60 to 40 while damage over time increased from 40 to 60. Clobber impact damage decreased from 40 to 30 while damage over time increased from 30 to 40. Tectonic Shock vertical knockback decreased by 30%. Blizzard described the damage changes as shifting some damage toward positioning and tracking a target. |
| Support | Illari | Solar Rifle primary-fire recovery increased from 0.2 to 0.25 seconds; secondary-fire healing increased from 105 to 115 per second. |
| Support | Lúcio | Sonic Amplifier damage per projectile decreased from 20 to 18; Soundwave damage increased from 35 to 45. |
| Support | Lifeweaver | Rejuvenating Dash healing increased from 50 to 60; Tree of Life pulse healing increased from 75 to 90. |
| Support | Moira | Biotic Grasp damage per second decreased from 65 to 60; Coalescence self-healing per second increased from 50 to 55. |
What bugs did the patch fix?
Blizzard’s notes include general, map and hero fixes. Examples include issues affecting Hero Mastery Gauntlet AI teammates, infinite wall climbing, leaderboard entries, Circuit Royal payload tires and a Paraíso payload-dock interaction. Venture fixes covered Drill Dash, Burrow, camera behavior, UI prompts and audio. Consult the full patch notes for the complete fix list.
