Yes—Overwatch 2 supports native mouse and keyboard (KBM) on console. If you choose those inputs, Blizzard places you in the PC Pool, which it says is being renamed the Mouse and Keyboard Pool. That pool includes PC platforms and console players using mouse and keyboard, so you may face PC players; Blizzard does not say every match will contain one.
How console mouse-and-keyboard matchmaking works
Blizzard introduced native mouse-and-keyboard support for console players with Season 18. The current Defense Matrix article calls the matchmaking option the “PC Pool” and says it will be renamed the “Mouse and Keyboard Pool” in a future update. It also refers to the controller queue as the “Controller Pool,” the planned replacement for “Console Pool.” The labels may therefore depend on the current game UI.
When you select mouse and keyboard, Overwatch 2 prompts you to switch pools. Blizzard says players in the PC/Mouse and Keyboard Pool are matched with all PC platforms and console players using mouse and keyboard. This describes the pool’s eligible population, not a guarantee that every match includes a PC player.
Choosing your input pool
Pool selection determines whether mouse and keyboard control gameplay or are limited to text entry.

- Use the prompt: When you connect or select mouse and keyboard, accept the prompt to join the PC Pool (the planned Mouse and Keyboard Pool).
- Change it in settings: You can also switch pools manually in Gameplay Options.
- Decline the switch: Mouse and keyboard remain available for chat and other text fields, but will not control gameplay while you stay in the Controller Pool.

Blizzard’s current policy does not enumerate every mode or matchmaking exception for the Controller Pool, and it publishes no queue-time or comparative-performance data for the two pools.
Aim assist and cross-play are different cases
Competitive matches in the Mouse and Keyboard Pool have no aim assist. Blizzard says this remains true if you use a controller during a match without first switching back to the Controller Pool.

That rule is distinct from ordinary cross-play. Blizzard says a console player using a controller who groups with a PC friend for cross-play-enabled modes such as Quick Play or Arcade is not moved by this new input-pool rule, and aim assist remains in those situations.
Blizzard’s older Cross-Play FAQ described mixed PC-and-console groups entering PC matchmaking in non-Competitive modes and PC players staying in the PC pool regardless of input. That FAQ predates native console mouse-and-keyboard support; the newer Defense Matrix policy is the relevant source for the current input-based rules.

Why unauthorized adapters can risk your account
Blizzard treats unapproved peripherals used to bypass Controller Pool restrictions as cheating. Its Season 18 announcement says continued unauthorized use in the Controller Pool can result in a full game account ban, regardless of rank or mode. Blizzard says it updated its detection technology.
Blizzard reports more than 23,000 enforcement actions since deploying detection for unapproved peripherals; that is Blizzard’s own enforcement-action count, not an independent estimate of how many players use them. The same article reports more than 1 million accounts banned for cheating since Overwatch 2 launched, a broad total covering multiple kinds of cheating—not a count of mouse-and-keyboard cases.

A 2024 director’s update by senior game producer Adam Massey and lead gameplay engineer Daniel Razza explained that some unapproved devices make console input appear to come from a controller, potentially exploiting aim assist. Its earlier penalty details are superseded by the Season 18 policy.

What to check before switching
- Confirm your console and peripherals support the setup you plan to use; Blizzard’s announcement does not establish compatibility for every console-and-device combination.
- Expect a separate competitive record in the Mouse and Keyboard Pool rather than a transfer of your Controller Pool rank.
- Switch back to the Controller Pool through Gameplay Options if you want to play with controller matchmaking rules.
- Use native support rather than an unauthorized adapter intended to disguise mouse-and-keyboard input as controller input.
