It bundles Sigma, Sigma 2, and Razor’s Edge, and its missing or disabled multiplayer features make it a weaker fit for anyone buying primarily for co-op or online play.
What is included in Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection?
The collection contains three specific versions: NINJA GAIDEN Sigma, NINJA GAIDEN Σ2, and NINJA GAIDEN 3: Razor’s Edge. It is not a package of every historical version of the trilogy. KOEI TECMO announced it for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC via Steam, with a June 10, 2021 release date. The PS4 version is playable on PS5 through backward compatibility; the Xbox One version is playable on Xbox Series X|S. KOEI TECMO’s announcement lists the games and platforms.

Ryu Hayabusa and four additional playable characters—Ayane, Rachel, Momiji, and Kasumi—appear across the collection, though the available characters and modes vary by game. The publisher describes the action as fast and challenging, with offense and defense that reward technique; that is a publisher characterization, not a guarantee that the difficulty will suit every player. The PlayStation listing provides the character and mode details.
How do the three games compare?
The collection is not equally praised as a three-game set. Reviews point to the first two entries as the strongest draws, while Razor’s Edge divides opinion: some reviewers consider it weaker, and others value its distinct combat and character identity. That makes the package more compelling if you are interested in experiencing the trilogy’s different approaches than if you expect three equally regarded installments.

#1 Best Overall
| Game | What to expect from the available review evidence |
|---|---|
| NINJA GAIDEN Sigma | Highlighted by Noisy Pixel among the collection’s strongest entries for fans of demanding action and learning through failure. Metacritic’s review excerpts include the outlet’s assessment. |
| NINJA GAIDEN Σ2 | Also praised by Noisy Pixel; the collection includes its modes, but its Tag Missions lack online multiplayer. Metacritic and the PlayStation listing document these points. |
| NINJA GAIDEN 3: Razor’s Edge | Often judged less favorably than the first two in the cited excerpts, though some critics appreciate its separate combat and character identity. Metacritic’s review excerpts reflect this range of opinion. |
For a demanding-action-game fan, the collection’s appeal is in learning enemies and improving through repeated attempts. Noisy Pixel called it a must-play for players who enjoy that process, while noting that the third game was adequate rather than on the same level as the first two. That is a review judgment, not a promise of a particular difficulty curve.
Is the collection a substantial modernization?
Critics differ on how much the collection improves its games for modern platforms. Hardcore Gamer characterized it as closer to up-res ports than a definitive collection, while Areajugones praised the higher-resolution and higher-frame-rate presentation in general terms but criticized the limited control changes. These are outlet opinions; they do not establish uniform performance across every platform.
The available evidence does not support a reliable platform-by-platform comparison of resolution, frame rate, or controls. If those details determine your purchase, check the listing for your exact platform rather than assuming a particular version has a specific performance advantage.
Does Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection include co-op or online multiplayer?
Not all original multiplayer features carry over. The official PlayStation listing identifies specific omissions: Sigma 2’s Tag Missions do not have online multiplayer; Razor’s Edge omits “Shadow of the world” and “Clan battle”; and online multiplayer is unavailable for Ninja Trials. The listing also says previously released modes and DLC costumes are included, so the package preserves some extra content while removing or disabling those named online features. Check the official feature notes if a particular mode is central to your plans.

- Gritty comic inspired art style turns a new chapter in TMNT history
- Packed with visually stunning fast paced combat true to platinum games signature style

PlayStation LifeStyle praised the three-game package at its launch price but criticized its barebones presentation and loss of co-op and other multiplayer modes. Hey Poor Player welcomed the package and extra modes while noting that the stories can be short. Both are 2021 review assessments, not current price guidance.
What did critics and players think?
When accessed in 2026, Metacritic displayed a 73 Metascore from 44 critic reviews, classified as “Mixed or Average,” and a 7.2 user score from 127 ratings. Its displayed critic classification was 39% positive, 61% mixed, and 0% negative. These are a dated snapshot of the aggregator’s page, and the counts and scores can change. See Metacritic’s current listing for the live figures.
The aggregate score captures a divided response to the collection as a package: enthusiasm for the demanding combat and three-game lineup sits alongside criticism of the limited modernization and removed multiplayer features. It does not mean all three games were received equally, and the cited review excerpts distinguish Razor’s Edge from the first two.

The right platform depends on where you want to play and which features matter to you. The available evidence does not establish a current performance winner between them, so choose by platform preference and verify the exact edition and current listing.
Is Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection worth it?
It is easiest to recommend to action fans who want the Sigma versions of the first two games alongside Razor’s Edge and are comfortable with demanding combat. It is harder to recommend as a definitive historical collection or a multiplayer purchase: this package contains specific editions, and its listing names important online omissions. The critical snapshot is mixed-to-positive, with reviewers praising the core action while questioning the collection’s modernization and completeness.
