NINJA GAIDEN 4 was first revealed during Xbox Developer_Direct on January 23, 2025. The announcement is now history: the action game launched October 21, 2025, and is listed for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. It brings back Ryu Hayabusa alongside new protagonist Yakumo, in a collaboration between Team NINJA, PlatinumGames and Xbox Game Studios.
When was NINJA GAIDEN 4 announced?
Xbox revealed NINJA GAIDEN 4 during its Developer_Direct showcase on January 23, 2025. Xbox described it as a direct sequel to NINJA GAIDEN 3 and the first new mainline entry in 13 years—a comparison made at the time of the announcement, not a current product statistic. Xbox Wire’s announcement and interview introduced the game and its development partnership.
Fumihiko Yasuda, Head of Team NINJA and producer at Koei Tecmo Games, said, “Fans have long been asking us for a new NINJA GAIDEN game.”
Is NINJA GAIDEN 4 out now?
Yes. The game launched on October 21, 2025. Its official pages list Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, including Steam. Storefront availability and purchase or subscription options can vary by region; check the relevant local store for current listings.

Who are the protagonists?
Yakumo leads the story
The announcement introduces Yakumo, a young ninja who arrives in a gruesomely transformed Tokyo as the Dark Dragon returns. PlatinumGames producer and director Yuji Nakao told Xbox Wire that the team wanted “a new hero to make the series more approachable for new players.”

Ryu Hayabusa returns
Ryu Hayabusa has a significant role in the story and is playable. The new lead therefore does not replace the series’ familiar ninja; the game brings Yakumo and Ryu into the same conflict.
What did the reveal show about gameplay?
Xbox’s announcement described rail- and wire-based traversal. The Xbox product page highlights precision- and strategy-focused combat and Bloodbind Ninjutsu. Team NINJA’s page says players can adjust difficulty and customize their experience. These are official descriptions of the game’s features, not a substitute for an independent review.

Who developed and published the game?
Team NINJA and PlatinumGames developed NINJA GAIDEN 4; Xbox Game Studios is the publisher. The collaboration reunites the series’ Team NINJA roots with PlatinumGames’ action-game development, with Xbox presenting the announcement at Developer_Direct.
In the January 2025 Xbox Wire interview, Nakao described the game as 70–80% complete. That was a development snapshot from the announcement period, not a current status report; the game has since launched.

Are there different editions or related accessories?
Xbox lists a digital Deluxe Edition that includes the base game, “The Two Masters” DLC, character and weapon skins, NinjaCoin and other in-game items. The official listing describes digital content; it does not establish that a physical game edition is available.
Xbox also lists a NINJA GAIDEN 4-themed Xbox Wireless Controller and a themed Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2. They are optional accessories, not requirements or gameplay upgrades. Availability depends on the store and region.
