There is no verified retailer listing or dated report here showing that the original Nintendo Switch was discounted ahead of Switch 2. Nintendo’s official pricing announcements provide context, but they do not establish what third-party stores charged or whether any particular Switch model went on sale.
What is confirmed about Switch pricing?
Nintendo described Switch 2 as the successor to Nintendo Switch in a January 16, 2025 release. It launched on June 5, 2025, and Nintendo said it plays Nintendo Switch games, while cautioning that some titles may not be supported or fully compatible. Nintendo’s successor and launch announcement provides that context.
On April 18, 2025, Nintendo announced US suggested retail prices of $449.99 for Switch 2 and $499.99 for the Mario Kart World bundle. Those were manufacturer suggested prices for the US launch, not records of retailer transactions. Nintendo’s April 2025 pricing announcement gives the launch figures.
On September 1, 2026, Nintendo announced that the US Switch 2 MSRP would rise from $449.99 to $499.99. In the same notice, Nintendo said, “Pricing for the Nintendo Switch system is not changing.” This is an official statement about Nintendo’s US system pricing, not proof that individual retailers never discounted the original console. Nintendo’s September 2026 notice states the change and its scope.

Which retailers discounted the original Switch, and by how much?
No specific retailer, Switch model, discount amount, or dated sale is established by the available evidence. That means it would be misleading to name a store or claim a particular price drop based on Nintendo’s MSRP announcements alone. A retailer markdown would need its own dated listing or contemporaneous report, with the country, model, condition, bundle contents, and checkout price identified.
What current offers and lower-cost options are documented?
Nintendo’s US retail-offers page, accessed October 8, 2026, lists a Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle for $549.99. Nintendo calculates the stated savings against the separate purchase of the system, game, and a three-month online membership. The offer is while supplies last and participating-retailer terms apply; it is an offer on Switch 2, not a price cut on the original Switch. Nintendo support says refurbished physical games and hardware are often available through Nintendo Store for less than new hardware. It does not confirm current stock or a particular price, so treat refurbished availability as an option to check rather than a guaranteed deal. No. Nintendo reported that Switch 2 sold over 3.5 million units worldwide in its first four days after its June 5, 2025 launch, calling it the highest global first-four-day sales level for any Nintendo hardware. The company’s figure includes specified Japan-only system variants and the Mario Kart World set. It describes Switch 2 launch sales, not retailer markdowns on the original Switch. Nintendo’s June 2025 sales release gives the figure and scope.
