Nintendo stopped selling Switch Game Vouchers in North America at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on January 30, 2026. Vouchers bought by then did not expire with the sales cutoff: each remains redeemable for 12 months from its own purchase date, provided the holder meets Nintendo’s redemption rules.
Can you still buy Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers?
No. Nintendo’s North American sales cutoff was 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on January 30, 2026. That date ended new purchases, not the validity of vouchers already bought. Nintendo’s notice says existing vouchers continue to work under the same terms and expire 12 months after purchase.

The cutoff time is specific to North America. Nintendo’s regional pages describe local deadlines differently, so readers elsewhere should check the support information for their country rather than applying the North American time. When do existing vouchers expire?
Each voucher set has its own 12-month validity period, counted from its purchase date. Nintendo’s example says a set bought on January 30, 2026 remains valid through January 30, 2027. Check the expiration date displayed for each unused voucher in your account; do not assume all vouchers share one deadline.

Nintendo’s FAQ also states a maximum of eight active vouchers. The validity period does not extend if a membership lapses or a game release is delayed. Nintendo’s North American FAQ.
What you need to redeem a voucher
- An active, paid Nintendo Switch Online membership: A paid membership is required when you redeem. If it lapses, you can redeem after starting another paid membership, as long as the voucher has not expired.
- The purchasing Nintendo Account: Only the account that bought the set can redeem its vouchers. They cannot be transferred or gifted to another account.
- A qualifying game and the correct region: Each voucher buys one eligible digital Nintendo Switch game. North American vouchers are limited to games in the region where they were purchased. Switch 2-exclusive games are not eligible.
The two vouchers in a set can be redeemed separately. Nintendo may add eligible Switch titles even after voucher sales end, and catalog eligibility can change. Check the current catalog for your country before choosing a game: Nintendo’s US eligible-games catalog.

How to check your vouchers and redeem one
- Find the expiration date. Sign in to your Nintendo Account and open the Shop Menu, or check account information in Nintendo eShop. Nintendo lists unused vouchers and their individual expiry dates there.
- Check eligibility and value. Confirm the game appears in the current eligible-title catalog for the country where the voucher was bought. Compare the games’ current prices with the price paid for the voucher set.
- Redeem through Nintendo. Use Nintendo eShop on your Switch or redeem through Nintendo’s website. If both vouchers are unused, Nintendo automatically applies the one closest to expiring first. Nintendo’s redemption instructions.
Using a voucher for a pre-order
A voucher used for a pre-order is not processed when the pre-order is first placed. Nintendo collects payment no sooner than seven days before release, and the voucher must still be valid through the game’s launch. If it expires before launch, it cannot be used for that pre-order. Does redeeming vouchers still save money?
There is no fixed savings amount: it depends on the current price and eligibility of the games you want. Nintendo’s US catalog says promotional value is realized when the combined price of two eligible games exceeds the voucher-set purchase price. Check both games in the current catalog and compare their prices with what you paid for the set; a title’s presence and price may change.

Can you get a refund?
Nintendo’s North American FAQ says vouchers generally cannot be refunded or exchanged, including after they expire. Exceptions apply where Nintendo authorizes one or applicable law requires it.
