The season and its advertised limited-time events have since passed: this is a retrospective of what Blizzard said was coming, not a report on upcoming content.
When did Overwatch 2 Season 20 start?
Blizzard announced Season 20 on December 2, 2025, and said it would begin December 9, 2025. The season was branded Season 20: Vendetta. Those dates are in the past as of October 8, 2026. Blizzard’s announcement and its December 2 developer update video previewed the season’s hero, mode updates, events, and cosmetics.

Who was Vendetta?
Vendetta was the season’s new Damage hero. Blizzard called her “the first melee DPS Hero in Overwatch history!” and described a close-range fighting style built around mobility, lunges, slices, and leaps. Her story was connected to Antonio Bartalotti and the Colosseo pits. That characterization and description are Blizzard’s announcement, not an independent assessment of how she performed in matches.
What gameplay and competitive changes did Blizzard announce?
Stadium updates
Blizzard said Doomfist and Wuyang would join Stadium, while Cassidy would receive a full rework in the mode. Other announced additions included a new Top 500 tier, a rank reset, a League 6 Reaper Chase reward, and a China Control map.

Competitive systems
The announcement outlined Challenger Score, win-streak and queue bonuses, visibility for top-ranked heroes, and restoration of rank progress after cheater bans. Blizzard also discussed possible connections to FACEIT tournaments and OWCS scouting. These were proposed or announced features and possibilities; the announcement does not establish their eventual performance or impact.
Which events and crossover were part of the season?
Winter Wonderland
Winter Wonderland was announced for December 9, 2025–January 7, 2026. Blizzard described a Mischief & Magic prop-hunt variant in which props could fight back, alongside a three-path rewards system using Winter Cookies. The named reward tracks were Jingle Tracer, Krampus Junkrat, and Santa Claus Torbjorn. The event window has ended.

Avatar: The Last Airbender collaboration
Blizzard announced the collaboration’s return for December 16–29, 2025. The themed character pairings were Mei as Katara, Zenyatta as Aang, Orisa as Appa, Venture as Toph, Genji as Zuko, and Kiriko as Suki. That collaboration window has also ended.
Midcycle content
In a January 8, 2026 midcycle post, Blizzard described Showdown Shuffle across Control, Hybrid, Escort, Push, and Flashpoint in 5v5, plus an Assault Quick Play Hacked weekend scheduled for January 8–11, 2026, and seasonal rewards. What Mythics, Battle Pass items, and shop content were announced?
The named Mythic cosmetics were the Divine Desperado Cassidy Hero skin and Capsule Cannon Orisa Weapon skin. Blizzard said the season’s Battle Passes included five Legendary skins, three Epic skins, emotes, charms, currencies, and other items. Its described Ultimate Battle Pass included the Premium Pass, 20 tier skips, 2,000 Coins, High Society Vendetta, and Reindeer Tracer. These are details from the December 2025 announcement, not confirmation that the offers are currently purchasable.
The announcement also named the Cozy, Borealis, and Heist shop collections. Blizzard said Battle Passes, currency bundles, and premium packs could be gifted in-game through Battle.net. The announcement does not establish present-day availability of those items or any affiliate program.

How did Blizzard later describe Season 20?
In a later Director’s Take retrospective, Blizzard cited Vendetta, a new Winter event, the Challenger system replacing Top 500 leaderboards, and a console aim-assist system as part of Season 20.
