When did Overwatch 2 Season 20 start?
Blizzard announced Season 20 for December 9, 2025. Its season announcement invited players to join that day, while the official Launch Drops post specified Tuesday, December 9, at 11 AM PT. That 11 AM time is given in the Drops schedule; Blizzard’s season announcement does not establish a precise patch-release time across regions.

The season was titled Vendetta, after its headline new hero. The guide title uses “Overwatch 2 Season 20” because that was the game and season name at the time.
Why is Season 20 a past season in Overwatch (2026)?
In February 2026, Blizzard changed the game’s name from Overwatch 2 back to Overwatch and restarted annual season numbering under the Reign of Talon story arc. The former 21st season became Season 1 of that new sequence, beginning February 10, 2026. Season 20 therefore refers to a specific 2025 Overwatch 2 season, not the current season number. PC Gamer reported on the rename and numbering reset on February 4, 2026.

What did Season 20 add?
Vendetta, a new Damage hero
Blizzard described Vendetta as the first melee Damage hero in Overwatch history. The announcement presented her as a mobile, close-range fighter. She was the season’s central gameplay addition.
Stadium updates
Season 20 brought Doomfist and Wuyang to Stadium, reworked Cassidy for the mode, and added a China Control map. Blizzard also announced a new Top 500 tier and a rank reset. These were mode and ranking changes, distinct from the season’s time-limited events.

Competitive changes
The announced Competitive updates included Challenger Score linked to the Top 500 race, bonuses for win streaks and queues, visibility for players’ top-ranked heroes, and restoration of rank progress after banned cheaters affected it. Blizzard also mentioned possible paths toward FACEIT tournaments and OWCS scouting; those were potential opportunities, not guaranteed tournament places or scouting outcomes.
Which Season 20 events and rewards were available?
The events below were announced for fixed windows in 2025–26. Those dates have passed; the announcement does not establish that the event modes or rewards remain available now.

Winter Wonderland: December 9, 2025–January 7, 2026
Winter Wonderland brought back Mischief & Magic with an added phase in which disguised props could fight back. Challenges offered Frozen Demon Junkrat and Frozen Mountaineer Cassidy. A separate three-path reward track used Winter Cookies to unlock Jingle Tracer, Krampus Junkrat, and Santa Claus Torbjorn.
Avatar: The Last Airbender collaboration: December 16–29, 2025
Blizzard announced the return of the collaboration for this window, featuring Mei as Katara, Zenyatta as Aang, Orisa as Appa, Venture as Toph, Genji as Zuko, and Kiriko as Suki.

Blizzard highlighted the Divine Desperado Cassidy and Capsule Cannon Orisa Mythic skins. The Season 20 Battle Pass included five Legendary skins and three Epic skins, along with other rewards. The Ultimate Battle Pass was described as including the Premium Pass, 20 tier skips, 2,000 Coins, and two Legendary skins. These are the contents described in the season announcement, not a claim about current availability.
Could players gift Season 20 content?
Blizzard said players could gift Battle Passes, currency bundles, and premium packs to friends through Battle.net. The announcement concerns digital game content and does not establish a physical Season 20 product or a third-party offer.
