Overwatch 2 Season 18 launched on August 26, 2025, with a new Support hero, major Stadium additions, Competitive changes, expanded hero progression and seasonal content. Blizzard later listed a September 16 continuation update, but the available official listing does not provide enough detail to reproduce its full patch notes or exact balance values.

What changed in Overwatch 2 Season 18?

Blizzard framed Season 18 as a broad refresh rather than a single balance patch. Its launch announcement covered Wuyang, more than 50 new hero-specific Perks, changes to Stadium, a Competitive rank reset, Hero Skill Rating, Hero Progression 2.0, an Advanced Info Panel, Mythic cosmetics and Summer Games activities. The season was scheduled to begin August 26, 2025. Blizzard’s Season 18 overview is the source for these announced features.

  • New Support hero: Wuyang, with water-themed healing, movement, disruption and an overhealth-granting ultimate.
  • Stadium: Quick Play, Draft Mode, Payload Race, three announced maps and additional heroes.
  • Competitive: a full rank reset, a soft MMR reset and separate ratings for individual heroes.
  • Progression: a rebuilt hero-by-hero leveling system and an Advanced Info Panel.
  • Seasonal content: two Mythic cosmetics, Summer Games activities and a Premium Battle Pass offering up to 80 Mythic Prisms.

What changed in Stadium?

Season 18 expanded Stadium with a faster, shorter Quick Play format, a pre-match Draft Mode and Payload Race. Quick Play was announced with Backfill and Cross Play support. In Payload Race, teams push parallel payloads toward the finish line instead of competing to win at checkpoints.

New maps and heroes

The three announced Stadium maps were Powder Keg Mine, Thames District and Oasis Gardens. Winston, Brigitte and Pharah were added to the Stadium lineup at launch; Tracer joined later in the season, according to Blizzard’s midseason announcement. The Season 18 overview describes the launch additions, while the midseason article listing identifies Tracer’s later arrival.

Items and balance

Blizzard announced three new Stadium items, ten major item reworks and nine balance updates. Those figures describe the scope of the announcement; they do not establish the individual item effects or balance values. For specific tuning, use the dated in-game notes or a complete official patch-note page rather than treating these totals as a detailed changelog.

Who is Wuyang, and what does his kit do?

Wuyang is a Support hero associated with Wuxing University’s Water College. Blizzard described a kit built around guided water orbs, adaptive healing, mobility and knockback. These are summaries of the official feature announcement, not independently tested gameplay findings.

The announcement also called out updated or rebalanced Perks for heroes including Lúcio, Winston and Pharah, but the accessible overview does not give a complete numerical balance table. Blizzard’s Season 18 announcement provides the published descriptions.

How did Competitive change?

Blizzard announced a full Competitive rank reset with fresh placements, alongside a soft MMR reset. It also said rank thresholds would be adjusted, particularly at higher tiers, and MMR ranges tightened to make it easier for friends to play ranked together.

Hero Skill Rating

Hero Skill Rating was introduced as a separate 0–5000 rating for each hero, rather than another version of a player’s overall rank. Players needed five placement matches on a hero to unlock that hero’s rating. Blizzard also described predicted ratings during placements and post-match SR changes for each player’s three most-used heroes. These figures and mechanics come from Blizzard’s 2025 announcement.

What were Hero Progression 2.0 and the Advanced Info Panel?

Hero Progression 2.0 rebuilt leveling around individual heroes and added permanent animated portrait borders at levels 20, 40 and 60. Blizzard said progression after level 21 would settle at about 100 minutes per level. That is Blizzard’s published estimate, not an independent measurement. The announcement listed Loot Box rewards at levels 5, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50.

Summer Games included third-person Lucio Ball, Lucio Ball Remix and returning Winston Volleyball. The event was scheduled for September 2–15, 2025. The dates and rewards here are historical Season 18 details.

What changed in the Season 18 midseason update?

Blizzard’s official patch-note listing includes a September 16, 2025 entry labeled “Season 18 continues.” Its listing excerpt mentions the Phantom Thieves crossover, and the midcycle article excerpt identifies Tracer’s Stadium addition and dates the crossover for September 16–29. The full September 16 patch-note details are not available in the inspected official source text, so exact hero balance changes or a complete update inventory cannot be stated here.

An August 29 official listing labels a separate update as gameplay and bug fixes. Its excerpt mentions Stadium changes involving Oasis Gardens and Competitive round scoring, but does not provide enough detail to reproduce the entire changelog. These listing excerpts establish that Season 18 received follow-up updates after launch, not what every change was.
