Overwatch 2’s Season 19, Haunted Masquerade, pointed toward a new hero without establishing that every hidden event clue was about her. Blizzard later confirmed that Hero 45 was Vendetta, a gladiator and damage dealer. The distinction matters: Season 19 previewed a forthcoming Hero 45 trial, while Vendetta’s identity and backstory came in a later announcement.
What Haunted Masquerade revealed during Season 19
Blizzard called Haunted Masquerade “Season 19’s costumed centerpiece.” The Halloween event ran from October 14 to November 3, 2025, alongside returning Halloween modes. In Haunted Masquerade, players wore masks representing allied heroes; masks granted abilities and buffs, and some pairings offered special benefits connected to character relationships. Blizzard’s Season 19 announcement also mentioned secret treats hidden on maps for players to find.
That announcement did not publish a complete list of the treats or state that every hidden clue identified Hero 45. Separately, the official Season 19 Developer Update description said Narrative Lead Miranda Moyer discussed a Hero 45 Gameplay Trial planned for later in the season. Taken together, Blizzard had signaled a new hero was coming during Season 19, but the available announcement details do not establish a definitive sequence of in-mode clues that revealed the hero.
Who Hero 45 turned out to be
Blizzard later confirmed that Hero 45 was Vendetta, a swift, lethal gladiator in the damage role. Her Hero Trial was scheduled to begin November 26, 2025. Blizzard’s retrospective on Vendetta ties her story to the Colosseo and Arena Victoriae, where she is known as La Lupa—the She-Wolf.

Vendetta’s history and weapon
Vendetta is the only child of former Talon leader Antonio Bartalotti, whom Gabriel Reyes killed. She seeks to reclaim her birthright, and Blizzard describes her as having Italian roots. Her hard-light sword is called the Palatine Fang.
How the character took shape
Blizzard’s retrospective says the team considered three prototypes: a long-range hitscan hero, a midrange assassin, and a close-range melee damage hero. The melee direction won out, allowing the team to build around a hero wielding a very large sword. Vendetta’s design combines agility with heavy melee damage; these development details explain the finished character, but they do not show that those mechanics were identifiable in Haunted Masquerade’s original hints.

How to read the teaser in retrospect
| When | What Blizzard said | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Season 19 announcement | Haunted Masquerade featured allied-Hero masks, abilities and buffs, relationship-linked pairings, and secret map treats. | The event’s format and the presence of hidden treats; it does not itemize all clues or connect every treat to Hero 45. |
| Season 19 Developer Update description | Narrative Lead Miranda Moyer discussed a Hero 45 Gameplay Trial coming later in the season. | A new hero trial was planned, without naming the hero in that description. |
| Later retrospective | Blizzard identified Hero 45 as Vendetta and described her role, story, and weapon. | The confirmation of her identity and character details. |
So “Hero 45 teased in Haunted Masquerade” works as shorthand for a hero teased amid Season 19’s content and announcements—not proof that the event’s published clues explicitly spelled out Vendetta’s identity. The event dates and trial date above are historical schedule details, not upcoming dates.
