If PARANOID crashes, freezes, or closes unexpectedly on PC, first compare your system with the game’s published requirements, then work through the checks below one at a time. Relaunch the game after each change and see whether the problem returns; that makes it easier to identify a trigger. These are general PC troubleshooting steps, not eight fixes confirmed by Madmind Studio for every PARANOID crash.
Check PARANOID’s PC requirements first
Steam lists the following requirements for PARANOID, a single-player psychological horror action-adventure released on December 15, 2023. Steam notes that requirements may change during development. Compare your PC’s components and available storage with the listing before changing settings or considering an upgrade.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10/11 | Windows 10/11 |
| Processor | Intel Core i3 3.2 GHz or AMD Phenom II X4 955, four-core at 3.2 GHz | Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | Radeon R9 280 or Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 | Radeon RX 580 or Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB |
| DirectX | Version 11 | Version 11 |
| Available storage | 20 GB | 20 GB |
These are the published targets, not a guarantee that a PC meeting them will never crash. If your system is below a listed minimum, it falls short of the game’s stated baseline, but that alone does not establish the cause of a particular crash. Check your hardware and compatibility before deciding whether any component needs replacing. Steam’s PARANOID listing has the game details and requirements.
Try these eight checks in order
Start with low-effort, reversible checks. After each step, launch the game and see whether the crash recurs before moving on. If a change makes no difference, you can move to the next check; if the problem stops, you have a useful clue about what was involved.

1. Restart your PC
Save your work, restart Windows, and launch PARANOID again before changing other settings. This is a simple first check that can help rule out a temporary system or application state.
2. Update your graphics driver and Windows
Install the latest graphics driver offered for your GPU by its manufacturer, then check Windows Update for pending updates. Restart if either installer requests it, and try the game again. General PC troubleshooting guidance from Quantic Dream Support recommends current drivers and Windows updates; this is not a PARANOID-specific fix.

3. Verify the game files in Steam
In your Steam Library, right-click PARANOID, choose Properties, open Installed Files, then select Verify integrity of game files. Let Steam finish before launching the game. File verification is a general platform troubleshooting step recommended by Quantic Dream Support, not evidence that a particular PARANOID installation is damaged.
4. Close nonessential background applications
Exit applications you do not need while testing, such as a browser, chat program, or music player, then launch the game. If the crash changes, reopen programs one at a time to check whether one coincides with the problem. Closing applications is an isolation test, not proof that background software caused the crash.

5. Lower the in-game video settings
If you can reach the settings menu, reduce graphics options and test again. Riot Games Support includes lower settings among its general recommendations for crashes and freezes. A change in behavior can indicate that workload or a particular setting is relevant, but it does not by itself identify the cause.
6. Reset graphics control-panel overrides
If you have custom per-game settings or overrides in your GPU control-panel software, restore them to defaults for PARANOID and test again. Riot includes resetting GPU control-panel settings in its general crash guidance. Make a note of any custom values first so you can restore them if needed.

7. Use a clean boot only if simpler checks fail
A clean boot starts Windows with a reduced set of startup programs and services, which can help isolate software conflicts. Follow Microsoft’s Windows instructions carefully rather than disabling items at random, test the game, and restore normal startup afterward. Because a clean boot changes the startup environment, avoid treating it as a permanent setting unless you understand the changes. Riot’s clean-boot advice is general PC troubleshooting, not a confirmed PARANOID remedy.
8. Reinstall only after the other checks
If the crash continues, uninstall and reinstall the game through Steam, then test again. Riot Games Support recommends a clean reinstall in general crash cases because it can replace corrupted or missing files. Reinstallation takes time and is not guaranteed to resolve a crash whose cause is unrelated to the installation.

What is known about PARANOID-specific crashes
A Steam Community announcement search excerpt reports a developer fix for a crash when opening the entrance to Zulleville, alongside other technical fixes. That is narrow, historical evidence for one location-specific issue; it does not show that current crashes have the same cause or that the change fixes every crash. The available announcement page did not expose the full announcement text. See Madmind Studio’s PARANOID Steam announcements.
The general steps above come from support guidance for PC game problems. Riot Games Support’s article, dated October 28, 2025, covers crashes without a specific error code; Quantic Dream Support gives broader PC troubleshooting advice. Neither source establishes which fix will work on an individual PARANOID PC.
If the crash keeps happening, record the details
A crash with no message, a complete freeze, and a black screen at launch can point to different troubleshooting paths. Before contacting support, note what happens and gather details that make the problem reproducible:
- When the crash occurs—for example, at launch, during a specific scene, or after a period of play.
- The exact error message, if one appears, or whether the game freezes, closes to desktop, or shows a black screen.
- Your CPU, GPU model and VRAM, RAM, Windows version, graphics-driver version, and how much storage is free.
- Which checks you tried and whether any changed the symptoms.
- Crash logs, if available on your PC.
Use the game’s current official Steam or support channel to report a repeatable problem; no specific currently available PARANOID support contact is established here. Logs and system details are more useful for diagnosing an individual PC than a generic checklist. Avoid buying hardware based on the crash alone: first determine whether your current system is below the published requirements and whether a compatible component is actually needed.
