Pawns are AI companions who serve the Arisen—not human co-op partners. Your party can include your customizable main Pawn and up to two additional Pawns, whose vocations and behavioral inclinations help shape the support they provide. You can also hire Pawns online from players on the same platform and set a quest for your main Pawn to complete beyond the Rift.
What Pawns do
Pawns respond to your commands and support you both in and out of combat. Their vocation helps determine their role in the party, so consider what your current group lacks when choosing additional companions. PlayStation’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 page describes a party with up to three Pawns: your persistent, customizable main Pawn and two additional hires.
Additional Pawns are available through in-game options or online from other players. Online hiring is not cross-platform: Capcom says you can hire Pawns only from users on the same platform.
What each Pawn inclination means
Inclination is a broad behavioral tendency, not a rigid script or a guarantee that a Pawn will perform a particular action. Capcom’s official manual says inclination affects aspects of behavior, including speech and the actions a Pawn tends to take. All Pawns serve the Arisen regardless of inclination.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Inclination | General tendency | May suit you if you want… |
|---|---|---|
| Kindhearted | Attentive to the Arisen and allies; quick to help. In battle, may support the party by holding foes down or casting beneficial enchantments. | A companion inclined to assist allies. |
| Calm | Strategic and survival-minded, favoring defense and evasion. May dispose of items it judges unnecessary. | A more cautious approach to danger. |
| Simple | Curious and exploratory, observant of surroundings, and inclined to gather items and share finds. | Help noticing and collecting things while exploring. |
| Straightforward | Candid and impulsive, good at spotting enemies from afar, and inclined to charge into battle, including against larger monsters. | A more aggressive companion. |
Capcom presents these as tendencies rather than a ranking of which inclination is best. When comparing available Pawns, consider both their inclination and vocation: the former suggests how they may behave, while the latter helps indicate their party role.
Changing your main Pawn’s inclination
Capcom’s support FAQ, updated July 20, 2026, says you can change your main Pawn’s inclination with an Art of Metamorphosis or by speaking with the Pawn while camping when you have the relevant Rift Incense. The incense name depends on the inclination. The FAQ says an Art of Metamorphosis can be obtained at the Pawn Guild.

How Pawn quests work
“Pawn quests are tasks given to your main pawn to be completed beyond the rift.” — Capcom’s official web manual.
You set an objective for your main Pawn and choose a reward. An Arisen who hires that Pawn can claim the reward by completing the task. The reward may be an item or gold: the item is taken from your inventory, or the gold is deducted from your funds. The manual also describes item-retrieval objectives, which let you request items from another Arisen. Capcom says Pawn quests can provide opportunities to obtain items and Pawn badges.

Check inventory-related specializations
Capcom’s FAQ warns that the Hawker and Logistician specializations can affect inventory weight through automatic item or equipment transfers and the sale of low-rarity items. Check for these specializations before handing a Pawn valuable items; this warning applies to those named specializations, not every Pawn.
