What was Dark Outlaw Games?
Dark Outlaw Games was presented as an internal PlayStation studio, not an independent developer working with Sony as an external publishing partner. Sony’s FY25 business-segment presentation includes the studio in its portfolio material, providing company-level context rather than details about a particular game.
Jason Blundell disclosed the studio on March 17, 2025, in an appearance on Jeff Gerstmann’s podcast. Gematsu’s report described it as established by Sony Interactive Entertainment and led by Blundell.
Who is Jason Blundell?
Blundell is known for several roles on the Call of Duty: Black Ops series, including work on Black Ops III’s campaign and Zombies modes. Before Dark Outlaw, he and Dave Anthony formed Deviation Games in 2021. That independent studio had a Sony partnership to develop a new intellectual property; it was a separate company from Dark Outlaw Games. Blundell later left Deviation.

What was Dark Outlaw Games making?
The studio’s first project was not publicly described in detail when it was announced. The sources cited here do not establish its genre, platforms, release timing, or whether it was intended to be a live-service game. Those points should not be treated as confirmed facts.
Blundell described the opportunity as creating a new studio within PlayStation Studios, but the announcement did not reveal a game or provide a production timetable. Sony’s portfolio presentation likewise does not supply project details.

What happened to Dark Outlaw Games?
In March 2026, PC Gamer reported that Sony confirmed Dark Outlaw Games’ closure. The article quoted a Sony spokesperson saying that Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group had made “several strategic adjustments to support long-term sustainability” and that there had been “limited workforce reductions across select teams.” The quoted statement does not name Dark Outlaw Games or explain why this particular studio closed, so it does not establish a studio-specific rationale.
The latest status established by that report is closure. The cited sources do not identify a released Dark Outlaw game or explain what happened to any project the studio may have been developing.
