There is no public evidence establishing that Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s release boosted sales of other Pokémon games. Nintendo reported strong sales for Z-A itself and said some older Switch games had stable sales, but it did not link that performance to Z-A or report a sales increase for other Pokémon titles.
What Nintendo’s sales figures show
Pokémon Legends: Z-A launched on October 16, 2025, for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. By June 30, 2026, Nintendo reported 13.09 million combined worldwide, life-to-date sales for the game across the two systems, including download versions. Nintendo’s sales accounting places packaged Switch 2 Edition software under Switch 2 and downloadable versions under Switch software. Nintendo’s software sales page lists 3.99 million units for the Switch 2 Edition line at that date. [c001] [c002]

Those figures establish that Z-A sold well; they do not show whether the launch affected demand for older Pokémon games. The reporting does not give title-by-title sales for other Pokémon games before and after Z-A’s release.
What Nintendo said about older games
In its fiscal-year results for the year ended March 31, 2026, Nintendo reported 8.85 million Z-A sales, including downloadable versions of the Switch 2 Edition. It separately reported 3.94 million packaged Switch 2 Edition units for that fiscal year; downloadable Switch 2 Edition sales were counted with Nintendo Switch software. These figures cover different periods and formats from the later June 30 cumulative total, so they should not be treated as directly interchangeable. Nintendo’s fiscal-year results also described stable sales for some evergreen titles, naming Super Mario Party Jamboree and Animal Crossing: New Horizons—not Pokémon games—and did not credit Z-A for that performance. Why the launch-period headlines do not prove a Pokémon sales lift
Coverage of the European launch-period charts reported a 15% week-on-week rise in sales of Mario Kart World. That is a different game, and a concurrent movement in one title’s sales cannot establish that Z-A caused a rise in sales of older Pokémon titles. The Game Business report does not supply the missing Pokémon-specific before-and-after data. [c005]
To test the claim, sales comparisons would need to match the same reporting window, geography, platforms, and formats. A launch-week ranking, a fiscal-year total, and a worldwide lifetime figure answer different questions. Nintendo’s split accounting for packaged and downloadable Switch 2 Edition sales adds another reason to compare like with like.

What the editions offer
Nintendo says the Switch 2 Edition has improved graphics and frame rates. Owners of the original Switch game can buy an upgrade pack whether their copy is digital or physical. The Switch 2 Edition can also be played on the original Switch, but there it runs with the same content as the Switch software and does not include additional content using Switch 2 specifications. See Nintendo’s release information for edition details. [c001]
